Welcome to Mr. Brown.'s AP Chemistry page!
To my 2011 students: Thanks for a
great year! Good luck next year!
Welcome 2012 AP students!
We’ve got a lot of ground to cover this year and too little time together! To save a little time, we are reviewing the first three chapters at a fast pace. These chapters are reviews of ideas covered in first year chemistry and the time we save here will allow us extra time to prepare for the AP test later.
These chapters should be reviewed over the summer by reading the chapter (to register for access to the online text in my links section below), reviewing the online PowerPoint notes (use the “Notes, Worksheets, and other stuff” link below), and completing the assigned homework for the chapter (see first 3 days homework). You will have a chance to get help on difficult problems during each of the first 3 days.
Learn to use your resources! Read the Resource Sheet I gave you thoroughly! Get an AP Chemistry Prep book! Print or use each of the following resources:
- Objectives Sheet (Handed out 1st day of chapter)
- Core Review Sheets (Posted 1st day of chapter)
- Chapter Reds (Posted 1st day of chapter)
- Chapter Review (Posted 1st day and handed out
- several days before the test)
In addition to finishing the first three chapters, your summer school assignment involves preparing for basic information that must be memorized for AP Chemistry. Without memorizing some core content, success in AP Chemistry is very difficult. In particular, the Ion Test (knowing the name and formula of common ions), Strong/Weak Acid/Base Test (knowing if a formula represents an acid or base and if it’s strong or weak) and Solubility Test (knowing which common substances are soluble or insoluble in water) are critical. Download information about these tests below.
