We're collecting NEW backpacks/messenger bags to donate to children in town who might not have school supplies for the fall. Our class is also collecting markers and pens. With money donated I've purchased 179. Our goal is 370 so every child has one to carry on the day we walk. If every family donates 1 backpack, we'll meet our goal! If you don't like to shop, I, your personal shopper, can purchase a nice backpack for just $10. I've told the children they can try and earn the money by doing some chores around the house. The whole school is walking on the 24th. What a great community service project to end the year, don't you think?

      Math   Numeration skills such as skip counting to 200 by 1's, 2's, 5's, 10's. Memorization of addition and subtraction facts to 10. Data collection, graphing and analyzing data, problem-solving, patterns, attributes, money, measurement and estimation, place value, symmetry, addition with regrouping, fractions, double-digit subtraction without regrouping, fractions, geometry.



   Phonics Review of short and long vowels, consonant blends, digraphs, r controlled vowels, vowel diphthongs, multisyllabic words.



Spelling-Review of First Grade Core Spelling Words and words ending with silent e. Second Grade Core Spelling Words. Flashcards for these words are located at the top of this page.Spelling patterns with vowel teams and endings i.e. ing, ed.



Handwriting-Correct letter and number formation review, spacing and using the lines correctly. NEATNESS!



Reading-Sequencing, recalling details, rereading and then highlighting the text for evidence. reader/text connections, making inferences, comparing and contrasting, main idea and details, character traits, connections.


Character Education- Second Step-Empathy Training, Anger Management.

Mobile Lab

We have the Mobile Lab(24 Dell wireless notebook computers) in our room every week for an hour or so. Students will be working on their typing skills using the program "Type To Learn, Jr." published by the Sunburst Company and will be graduating to "Type To Learn 3". Their progress is tracked and recorded on the school's network so they move along at an individual pace. We will also learn how to access the internet, bookmark an educational/curriculum-based site and navigate that site. Please rest assured that we have a safe and secure network here at Morley.
