Specific Skills


      Math   Numeration skills such as skip counting to 200 by 1's, 2's, 5's, 10's. Memorization of addition and subtraction facts to 10. Data collection, graphing and analyzing data, problem-solving, patterns, attributes, money.



   Phonics Review of short and long vowels, consonant blends, digraphs, r controlled vowels. 



Spelling-Review of First Grade Core Spelling Words and words ending with silent e. Second Grade Core Spelling Words. Flashcards for these words are located at the top of this page.



Handwriting-Correct letter and number formation review, spacing and using the lines correctly. NEATNESS!



Reading-Sequencing, recalling details, rereading and then highlighting the text for evidence. reader/text connections, making inferences.


Character Education- Second Step-Empathy Training


Social Studies-Simple maps, compass rose, north, south, east, west



Writing-Choosing topics, Heart Maps expectations of the writing workshop, memoir writing. Animal reports: note taking skills.


Centers and Social Studies- Community

Mobile Lab

We have the Mobile Lab(22 Dell wireless notebook computers) in our room every week for an hour or so. Students will be working on their typing skills using the program "Type To Learn, Jr." published by the Sunburst Company and will be graduating to "Type To Learn 3". Their progress is tracked and recorded on the school's network so they move along at an individual pace. We will also learn how to access the internet, bookmark an educational/curriculum-based site and navigate that site. Please rest assured that we have a safe and secure network here at Morley.
