Today the mayor of Beavercreek, Mrs. Vicki Giambrone, spoke to our third graders about the Beavercreek City Council and our local government.  She has invited our 3rd graders to the next Beavercreek City Council meeting which will be held on Tuesday, May 29th at the Beavercreek City Hall.  This meeting will be at 6PM and if our students attend they may lead the saying of the pledge which will be televised.  If you wish to attend, please do so.  Unfortunately, that is graduation night, so I will be at the 8th graders special mass.  This might be a fun thing for scouts or anyone interested in how our city government works.  Please ask your child what legislation the council will be discussing that night.

Happy Mother's Day to all of you wonderful, caring, and loving mothers.  You are such a gift to your children and you deserve to be celebrated.

Thank you to all of you for the wonderful surprises during Teacher Appreciation Week.  The hydrangea plotted plant will be such a great addition to my landscape and I really love it.  Thank you also for the framed print that was made from the auction photo - FAITH - that Debbie Shahady had made for me.  Stop by the classroom and see your child in each of the letters.  That will be such a special remembrance of this class!!!  I will really enjoy the freezer mug filled with Crystal Light drink mixes and a Panera gift card also.  Thank you all  for the many gift cards and goodies that were sent in through the week.  I am certainly blessed.

This week we will celebrate Taylor Jordan's birthday and we are also celebrating birthdays these next two weeks for our students with summer birthdays:Heather, Thomas G., Christian, Kevin, and Lexi.

We have many special activities planned for the next three weeks.  Some of them are as follows:

May 14 - Carroll band visits

May 21 - Reptile Pete visits 3rd grade - still need some students to send in their $4.00 to cover this

May 22 - talent show

May 23 - Mayor Vicki Giambrone visits 3rd grade to talk about our local government.  We also will have a presentation about the summer reading program.

May 25 - Fun Day

May 30 - 3rd grade picnic - Debbie Shahady will be contacting you about this.

June 1 - Last day of school.

MATH - We will finish up with fractions and then move on to measuring length to the neares 1/4 inch, using feet, yards, miles to measure larger objects.  Final math test is scheduled for Wed., May 23rd.

SCIENCE - The students have been researching information about a particular reptile.  They will write a report about these in class this week and then will publish them in the computer lab on Friday.  They will also construct a model of one using torn paper, similar to their penguin projects.

AUSTRALIA - We will focus on the continent of Australia these final weeks of 3rd grade.  We will look at the geography, landforms, wildlife and special features of this island continent.  We will also have fun with the animals native to this land and some "Aussie" terms.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Sincerely,

Patricia M. Kretz
