May 21-25 We are moving right along. There is not much time left and I feel like there is so much to be done! This is an exciting time for the kindergarten. They are very excited about the Kindergarten Celebration and about going into first grade. MATH: We will be working on chapter 12 Model Subtraction. In this chapter the children will use objects to help them subtract numbers. Key Vocabulary Words: subtract, minus sign, are left. Some things you can do at home: Use everyday objects (toys, crayons, food) to model subtraction. An example would be place 5 crayons in front of your child and remove 2. Ask your child how many are left. Books to Read: Ten Seeds by Ruth Brown; Ten, Nine, Eight by Molly Bang; Monster Musical Chairs by Stuart J. Murphy READING: The book of the week is Fish Faces. Fish are different shapes, sizes, and colors. they can be spotted, dotted, or striped. Their noses might be long and they might shine. New Popcorn Words: has, look Some things you can do at home: Write each popcorn word on an index card and read it aloud. Tell your child to say each letter while writing. This will help with phenomic awareness. PHONICS: The sounds /x/ (box) and /v/ (violin) WRITING LAB: The children wrote about what they would do if they had a magic pet fish. SCIENCE: We will be working on fish. SOCIAL STUDIES: We will be practicing for the Kindergarten celebration during this time. RELIGION: We are reading Bible stories. SPELLING:The children did a great job on their third test! The 4th list will be going home. Due to the short week the test will be on Thursday. |
