Homework Project Assignment Week 1: Jan. 31st - Feb. 4th Declaration Week. Declare which sport you want to research. You can pick from these six: football, basketball, baseball, soccer, MMA and NASCAR. Answer the following questions: Why does this sport interest you? Find 3 sources that will help you in your research (ex. websites, books, magazines, periodicals) After you have found your sources write them down in a notebook. (Tip: I would use a new notebook for all the homework assignments.) Week 2: Feb. 7th - 11th History Week. Now it is time to start researching your sport. How long has this sport been around? Where did it originate? Did this sport evolve from another sport? You will need at least 10 supporting facts on the history of your sport. (Note: The questions I provided are just to help you get started. Feel free to come up with your own questions) Week 3: Feb. 14th - 18th History Week Continues. You will need 10 more supporting facts on the history of your sport. Don't forget to write everything in your notebook. Week 4: Feb. 21st - 25th Sport Effects Week. How does this sport affect the national ( Week 5: Feb. 28th - Mar. 4th Attendance Week. Why do people attend sporting events? What is the average attendance in your sport? What is the main draw or reason people attend? Who has the highest attendance? Why? Who has the lowest attendance? Why? S&E II add-on: Create a survey to find out why people attend sporting events. Create five questions that you can ask anyone about your sport. Make sure all questions pertain to attending a game or event. Week 6: Mar. 7th - Mar. 11th Best Franchise Week. Who has the top or best franchise in your sport? Why? What has this franchise done to become the best (include championships and playoff records). Find 5 reasons why they are the best. Week 7: Mar. 14th - Mar. 18th Sport Promotion Week. How does this sport promote itself? How many different ways do they advertise? List all advertising venues that you can find (minimum 5). What is your favorite out of the five? Why is it your favorite? Week 8: Mar. 21st - 25th Organizational Structure Week. Find the organizational structure of your favorite team. Create a chart showing the flow of the organization from the President/CEO down. This chart will be added to your final report. Week 9: Mar. 28th - Apri. 1st Best Athlete Week. Who is the best athlete in your sport? How much are they paid? Who do they play for? How long have they played? How has this athlete changed their sport? What companies do they have endorsement deals with? Week 10: Mar. 29th - Apr. 1st Let's Get Paid Week. What is the average salary in your sport? Find 5 other non-sport related careers and compare salaries. Create a chart showing the differences. This chart will be added to your final report. Week 11: Apr. 4th - 8th Club Week. Find a minimum of 3 professional organizations or clubs that are affiliated with your sport. Name the organization and describe their mission. Week 12: Apr. 11th - 15th ESPN Week. Watch ESPN this week for stories related to your sport. Describe the 5 stories and write a short opinion on each one. Week 13: Apr. 18th - 22nd Risk Week. What are the risks involved in this sport? List 5 risks that are related to the sport and chart each one. Week 14: May 2nd - May 6th Compilation Week. Compile all of your research into one paper. The paper must have the following: cover sheet with title, name and date; minimum 4 pages typed (or) 6 pages written; double-spaced; 12 font; and a bibliography (list your sources). Feel free to add additional facts about your sport that you thought were interesting. Week 15: May 9th - May 13th Visual Week. Your project must include a visual. Choose from one of the three visuals on this list: 1) video - you must record a video and burn it to a DVD. 2) posterboard - you must create a tri-fold board with facts and pictures about your sport. 3) PowerPoint - you must create a PowerPoint and save it to a flash drive. Note: Make sure the material relates to your sport. |
