Novels
Third and Fourth Grade
The third and fourth grade students are going to begin reading Molly's Pilgrim, by Barbara Cohen. This book about a third grade student coming to America was inspired by something that actually happened to a member of Barbara Cohen's family. I have provided a link to the Scholastic Mayflower website so that you can read more about the original Pilgrims.
Fifth Grade
Fifth grade students will be reading an exciting book called The Secret Soldier: The Story of Deborah Sampson, by Ann McGovern. The book describes the life of a young woman who disguised herself as a man and fought in the Revolutionary War. The author also tells about Deborah's life before she became a soldier and after she returned home. I have provided a link to Ann McGovern's homepage so that you can explore this book and her other novels further.
