Dear Parents & Students,

Congratulations to Our December Pirate of the Month Alberto Blume-Rios!

Once again, thank you for all your support throughout the school year... It takes a village to raise a child. We are so blessed to be a part of such an awesome village.

We are also running low on copy paper, thin dry erase markers, clear packing tape, masking tape, plastic sheet protectors (thickness-heavy) and magic soap, please send donations and receipts with your child for volunteer hours. Thank you in advance.

*Important Reminders*

Please remember that we will be taking our class picture on Tuesday. Have your child wear their best Pinecrest uniform that day.

Since next week is a short school week, we will be reviewing previously taught spelling words & concepts such as: nouns, adjectives, antonyms & synonyms. Beginning the 3rd Quarter, we will be using The Blast Off Program for reading homework to focus on fluency. More information to follow, check your child's folder everyday.

Have your child go on-line and visit Ticket to Read daily, for fun interactive reading activities. Information will also be sent home soon on Riverdeep, an awesome web-site!

Please remember that our library day is on Friday and we have computer lab on Monday. Your child should read their library book at home but, please keep it in their backpacks every day. Each child will take an Accelerated Reader Test on their book. Be sure to ask your child comprehension questions about their book. Such as the beginning, middle and end of the story. Who are the main characters, describe the setting, conflict, solution and plot.

, Homework will be checked on Friday, please have your child write their first and last name, number and date on all homework. If you can please staple all homework sheets together on Thursday night. That would really assist me and speed up the process. Thank you in advance.

Please go by the office to request your "Pin Number"  in order to access the "Parent Portal" at www.dadeschools.net. Once you have done this, you may access your child's grades and fill out the volunteer form (on-line) to get clearance. Remember, this is the only way to get volunteer clearance for this school year.

Remember to join PALS, our goal is 100%, we are about 50%. Please join by next week...Our class could win a Pizza Party! Also, if you join PALS, you will be awarded 3 volunteer hours.

Sign up to "Notify Me" to receive a message every time this page is updated.

Please check and clear out your child's folder every night.

Any money that is sent to school must be the exact amount (I cannot make change). Also, all money must be labeled with the child's name, what it is for and the dollar amount.

Lunch money is always due on Monday. Please place the money for the week in an envelope labeled "Lunch Money" with your child's name/Mrs. Llanes/dollar amount.

Please use the Dismissal Car Tags to help with the dismissal process and insure the safety of your child. Be sure to use the new colored tags.

In the mornings, all 1st Grade students must report to the cafeteria if they arrive before 8:20am. Your child must be in their classroom before 8:30am, to avoid being tardy. Please make every effort to have your child at school and on time everyday.

Please have your child eat a good breakfast and use the bathroom before leaving home. They may bring a small water bottle to use in the classroom.

The Pinecrest folder should be checked and returned daily. Please be sure to take out any papers that were sent home or completed homework.

Here are a few things to keep in mind when completing the Homework with your child:

*Complete only that day's homework. Do not get ahead, as I may have not covered certain material.

*Homework is a review of what has been taught in school that day, so your child should be able to complete on his/her own with your guidance. Please do not do the homework for them.

WISH LIST

As stated in the parent contract, all families must complete 30 volunteer hours. I understand that many parents may find it difficult to volunteer their time. For that reason I have included our  Wish List  of materials you may donate to our classroom. You will receive 1 hour for every $3.00 you spend. Please remember to send the materials, with your receipt/child's name/Mrs. Llanes to the main office, so that they may credit you the correct number of hours. All items that are donated will be greatly appreciated by our class. Please check this web page regularly in order to avoid duplicates.
