Welcome to Chemistry It is an honor and privilege to have you in my chemistry class. Chemistry is a very interesting and fun subject to learn. It is my intent to make this a fun and exciting class for you with the final outcome to have you all become future chemist. Refer to the downloads at the bottom of the page for an opening of school letter intended for you and your parents and a PP containing class rules, procedure and materials needed. Week of 5/21 - 5/25 Finish all Gas Law Problems Gas Law Test this week Week of April 23 -27 We will continue Chapter 17 - Reaction Kinetics Chapter 17 Quiz and test will be given after we finish second 2 We will then move on to Ideal Gas Laws Week of April 16 - 20 Prepare Calorimetry and Hess's Law Lab report to hand in for those periods that did not turn it in Be ready for a quiz on Chapter 17 section 1 Week of April 9 - 13 Reflectivity and Absorption of Different Colors of Light Lab Report due the next time I see you Week of April 2 - 6 We are working on calculating Enthalpy of reactions using enthalpy of formations and Hess's Law Be ready for a quiz on this material the next time we meet :) We will also be doing a lab this week. the lab report information will be worthcoming ! Week of March 5 - 12 Stoichiometry - % Yield Lab Report due: Periods 1 and 3 - Wed. March 7 Periods 2 and 6 - Tuesday March 6 Week of Feb. 20 - Feb. 24 Week will continue Stoichiometry and Limiting Reactants Limiting Reactant Lab Report due: Period 1 and 3 on Friday Feb. 24 Period 2 and 6 on Thursday Feb. 23 Expect quizzes as we cover the material in class Week of Feb. 13 - Feb. 17 All periods should be working on pg. 320 problems 12 -16 We will continue to work on Stoichiometry Expect quizzes as the material is covered Week of Feb. 6 - Feb. 10 This week we will be starting Stoichiometry - Chapter 9 All classes should please start reading the chapter Period 3: Please work on the problems on page 320 12 -16 we will go over them in class and continue to work on stoichiometry Week of Jan. 30 - Feb. 3 Period 2, 3, 6 - Chapter 8 Section 2 Quiz Period 1 - Balancing Equations problems that we started in class and Page 290 - #s 11 -17 plus predicting equations problems also started in class All classes should have all all of the balancing equations problems done and page 290 - 11-17 complete Week of Jan. 16 - Jan. 20 Show Me A Mole Lab Report Due: Periods 2 and 6 due Thursday Jan. 19 Periods 1 and 3 due Friday Jan. 20 We will continue to work on Chapter 8 - Chemical Equations - Expect quizzes once we cover a section Week of Jan. 9 - Jan. 13 Period 1: Covalent nomemclature worksheet and Test on all types of nomenclature next time Period 2, 3, and 6: Molecular and Impirical formula worksheet We will be starting Chemical Equations next week Holiday Break All chemistry periods except one will need to finish the nomenclature handout that we started in class This is due your first day back May you all have a peaceful and wonderful holiday !!!!!!!!! Week of Dec. 14 - Dec. 19 This week we will be continuing to work on chemical nomenclature - naming compounds - Chp. 7 All classes need to have the vocabulary done for this chapter We have now finished the following labs: Dancing Spaghetti Lab and Endothermic Exothermic Lab The lab reports will be due next week Period 1 and 3 on Thursday Dec. 17 Period 2 and 6 on WednesdayDec. 16 Also be ready for a nomenclature quiz once we have completed and gone over the handouts given to you in class. Week of Nov. 28 - Dec. 2 We will continue to work on Chapter 6 - Chemical Bonding Please make sure to read the Chapter and do the vocabulary for sections 1 - 4 Be ready for section quizzes once we have covered the sections Week of Nov. 14 - 18 We are finishing electron configuration and moving on to periodic law and bonding. Please make sure to have the vocabulary in your notes for the chapters that we cover in class Period 3 : has a Chp. 5 Sec. 3 quiz the next time we meet Week of Nov. 21 - 23 We will be working on Chapter 6 - Bonding Please make sure to have all of the vocabulary for chapter 6 done Also make sure to be ready for any quizzes as we cover the material for each section Week Of Nov. 7 - 11 Flame Test Lab Report Due: Period 1 and Period 3 - Tuesday Nov. 8 Period 2 and 6 - Wednesday Nov. 9 Week of Oct. 31 - Nov. 4 This week we will continue with electron configuration. Once done we will review the periodic table and go on to bonding and then chemical nomenclature We will also be doing a laboratiory entitled the " Flame Test Lab" on page 130 Due this week: Period 3: Quiz on Chp. 4 Sec. 2 and electron configuration the other periods will see these quizzes later on Period 2: page 125 problems 26 - 38 Period 1: Finish the electron configuration worksheet that we started in class Week of Oct. 17 - 21 We will be finishing Atomic Theory Chapter 3 this week Be ready for a Chapter 3 Section 3 quiz the next time we meet the quiz will cover the theory in section 3 and calculations using AMU, molar mass, molecular mass and Avogradro's number Please study Chapter 3 Section 3 and your notes We will then be starting electron configuration in chapter 4 Week of Oct. 10 - 14 This week there is no homework this week due to PSAT testing Good Luck to all of you taking the test ! In class this week we will be finishing Atomic Theory and starting the EMS and Quantum Theory and how this leads to electron configuration Please look over Chapter 4 Week of Oct. 3 - Oct. 7 This week we will be starting Atomic Theory Please make sure that you have read chapter 3 and have completed all of the vocabulary % Of Water in Popcorn Lab Report Due Tuesday Oct. 4 for - Period 3 Wednesday Oct. 5 for - Periods 2 and 6 Thursday Oct. 6 for - Period 1 Week of Sept. 26 - 30 There is no official homework for this week at this time However: Period 1 will be having a chapter 2 section 2 and 3 quiz the next time we meet Period 2 and 6 will be having a chapter 2 section 1, 2, and 3 quiz plus a metric quiz the next time we meet Period 3 is responsible for all of the chapter 3 vocabulary as we will be beginning Atomic Theory next time Also for period 3 - The Recycling Essay due Friday Sept. 30 Week of Sept. 19 - 23 Density and Chromatography Lab Reports due: Friday Sept. 23 for Periods 1 and 3 and Thursday Sept: 22 for Period 2 Period 6 has to finish the 3 labs we started in class for (Dilution, Density and Chromatography) as were explained in class Thursday Sept: 22 Week of Sept 12 - 16 Mixture Lab Report due: Period 1 and 3 - Thurs. 15 Period 2 - Fri. 16 Period 1 also needs to finish a measurement assign. for Tues. 13 Period 6 -needs to complete problems 1-11 on page 25 Have a great weekend ! Week of Sept. 5 - 9 Period 6 - Element homework due 9/7 create a paper sized element page with the element symbol and number, place a few pictures of things made up of your element around the symbol Period 3 - Page 25 questions 1 - 11 due 9/7 Period 1 - Handout due 9/7 Have a wonderful weekend !!!!!!
