Reading: This week we are reading “A Weed Is a Flower” from the textbook. Our skills this week are: Phonics Skill – Comparative Endings; Comprehension Strategy – Cause and Effect, Monitor and Fix-Up; Grammar – Verbs: Am, Is, Are, Was, Were; Academic Vocabulary – Inotation and Selection
Spelling Words: sooner, soonest, hotter, hottest, busier, busiest, happier, happiest, smaller, smallest, fatter, fattest, angrier, angriest, straighter, straightest (the last four spelling words are challenge words)
High Frequency Words: neighbor, hours, money, clothes, taught, only, question
ü The Reading Selection Test, Spelling and Grammar tests will all be on Thursday. The 2nd 9 Weeks Academic Vocabulary test will be Friday 12/11/09. Please help your child review the 16 Academic Vocabulary words for the 2nd 9 Weeks.
Math: This week in Math we will continue exploring 2-Digit Subtraction (borrowing and renaming) along with 2-Digit Addition (with regrouping). The 2nd 9 Weeks Math Assessment will be given this week.
Science: This week in Science we will continue studying our AMSTI Unit: Organisms Notes: ü Don’t forget to help your child collect & submit one vocabulary word this week. ü Grammar homework will be sent home on Wednesdays. Please help your child complete the sheet & study for the test on Thursday. ü Math homework will consist of daily work not completed in class. This needs to be completed before Friday. Your child will bring home extra practice throughout the week on an as needed basis. Please practice basic subtraction facts. ü DIBELS Testing will be on Monday December 14th ü Please listen to your child read every night. ü Christmas Holidays are Monday December 21st 2009 – Monday January 4th 2010
