Home Learning:

All home learning is written Monday through Thursday in the planner. Please check it daily to make sure your child has completed all their home learning and that it is accurate. I usually do not give assignments to be completed over the weekend, or holidays (except for the 30 minutes of reading), unless the students need more practice on a difficult lesson. Home learning that is turned in late will not be accepted unless the student is absent, or there are extenuating circumstances that prevented your child from completing the assignment. If your child does not understand the lesson and you are unable to explain the concept please write me a note on the worksheet. Indicate what your child did not understand and I will explain it the next day. Please make sure that you sign the note that you write to me.

Reading:

All students must bring a chapter book to read in class

to comply with the state mandated Sustained Silent Reading Program.

Monthly reading log is due Friday, February 18 and Friday, March 11

FCAT reading log is due Monday, March 7 and Tuesday, April 5

Please make sure that your child reads at least 30 minutes every night for a total of 3 hours every week. In addition they must record the title of the story, how much time spent reading, and the number of pages read in the log. The logs will be collected the first school day of every month. Your signature is required on the bottom of the reading log in order for your child to receive credit for completing the assignment. Remember to use the FCAT task cards to ask your child questions on what he/she has read. The cards are in the same format your child will see on the FCAT exam. The more you practice with your child the better he/she will perform on the test. The nights your child has to read on FCAT Explorer should be recorded on their weekly log as FCAT Explorer and no further reading is required those nights.
