Welcome to Mrs. Richi's 5th Grade ELA Page Week of Nov. 16-20
"Featured Readers of the Week"- congratulations to Lindsay, Cole, and Sherry! Students did a fabulous job this week working on their Don Quixote conversations which reinforced quotation mark usage as well as understanding of the main character "DQ". I hope you had a chance to see these before they were turned in. The illustrated conversations are now hanging up for others to see! Reading: All Students need an SSR book every Friday.- we have a notebook where we are logging our SSR books. Please check with your child to be sure he/she has an SSR book. Some students still aren't bringing their SSR books to class on Fridays. Please check with your child about this. Thanks. Reading- 5-2/5-4: We will be reading Don Quixote chapters 4-6 this week. On Monday there will be an open book quiz over this section. 5-6: We will cover chapters 4-6 of Don Quixote and take an open book quiz on Friday. Writing: Choice Piece We are back on track with our choice pieces! As you know from the choice piece status update paper you signed, students have been working in small groups on their pieces. This week, they will be submitting their drafts to me. I will be commenting and asking some questions in an effort to further the revision process. While they wait for my response, students will be doing an "I Am" poem which is a springboard into our next writing piece. You may want to hear your child's story too. If so, please ask your child to read it to you aloud. This way, he/she can share their work with you and have some extra opportunity to "catch" any errors that might slip by them while just reading it silently. I only ask that if you have your child share the piece with you that you not "mark" it or "correct" any of their mistakes. Editing is the next step; students are learning techniques in class to identify and correct their own errors. Thanks in advance for your cooperation. Vocabulary 5-2/5-4- Unit 8 cards and book pages due Wednesday; test Thursday. 5-6 Classes: We've stepped back to review Units 1-3; book work is due this Thursday. We will resume vocabulary units after Thanksgiving. 5-6 Blog on Gaggle.net: I've posted a blog entry asking students to "persuade" me to let them open up their own blogs. We'll see how persuasive they are! : ) Please contact me if you ever have any concerns or questions. Regards, Mrs. Richi |
