I wish each family the best Thanksgiving ever.  I am thankful for such a wonderful group of students!

Enjoy your time with friends and family as we begin this holiday season!

Our focus skills for November are:

TEXT ELEMENTS, LITERARY ELEMENTS, AND PLOT.

Some of the vocabulary we will be using in class will include:  main heading, sub-heading, illustration, captions, body of text, textual clues, bold, guide words, web page, animation, hyperlinks, call-outs, graphs, plot, climax, rising action, resolution, falling action, discussion questions, and image description.

A great way to expose your student to a variety of text is to have them read the newspaper.  It is a great way to help your student stay informed and can encourage many of the higher level thinking skills that we are striving to develop in class.

On my School Notes site, 8th grade information is displayed in green and 7th grade information is displayed in brown

**  7th grade only - Your first TYPED journal entry for your Sunshine State Reader is due on Thursday, November 19!!!!

Finally, some cool weather!!

11/16 - 11/20 This week we discussed plot, read the Wolf's version of the three little pigs, and completed a plot diagram.  Our Odyssey assignments for this week concluded the plot lesson.

We will complete a sequencing activity on Friday in which we make butter, then sequence our steps and share some of our own Thanksgiving traditions using our journals.

*  The book project for this nine weeks will be assigned when we return from the break.... Students will have a choice of several project ideas.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!!!  We have so much to be thankful for!

WHEN WE RETURN, WE WILL BEGIN A THREE DAY LITERARY DEVICE WORKSHOP.  WE WILL REVIEW THE FOLLOWING: ANALOGIES, HYPERBOLES, SIMILES, METAPHORS, AND IDIOMS.
