May 24, 2012 Eighth Honors Literature - We worked on skills of foreshadowing and inferences. Vocabulary and selection quiz for the legends "The Girl in the Lavender Dress" and "The Woman in the Snow" were begun. A- READ! Eighth Honors English - The best of weekend writings was elaborated upon in essay form on Criterion Writing program. A - Have a wonderful "looooong" weekend!
Seventh Grade Honors Literature - Author's purpose and theme were analyzed. Then we worked on vocabulary and selection quiz for the drama "The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street." A - READ! Seventh Honors English - We worked on our Criterion Writing essay in lab. A - Essay due with four submissions on Tuesday, May 29. Have a safe and restful long weekend!
Sixth Academic Literature - We covered skills on vocabulary, generalizations, and effects of imagery for "My First Dive with the Dolphins." A-READ! Sixth English (Whole Class) Chapter 8 - Capitalization Chapter 8, Lessons 1 and 2, Capitalization, were reviewed and further developed. A - Complete Criterion Writing for Tuesday, May 29.
Fifth Academic Reading "What's the Big Idea, Ben Franklin," pages 648+ Oral reading of story was completed. Focus is on comparing and contrasting plus denotation and connotation of vocabulary. A - READ!
Second Grade, Room 108, Science - Unit E, Chapter 10, Changes in Matter Chapter 9 test was returned, discussed, corrected, and filed for parent signature. Chapter 10, Lesson 2, was read together and discussed. Workbook pages to check understanding were completed independently and then discussed and checked. A - Study five (5) vocabulary words for Chapter 10. If you cannot find them, copy definitions from lessons in text! Each graded homework, classwork, quiz, and test paper must be signed by parent and shown to Mrs. Frederick before it goes back to its home in the Science folder. Second Grade, Room 108, Social Studies Unit 5: "How Government Works" The last lesson in Unit 5 was introduced. Emphasis was on justice and identification of immigrants. Students completed an exercise on vocabulary words used in discussion. A - "Think" of a problem that we have in our county or in our city that we could do something about changing. We will be practicing the writing of a letter to one of our community leaders. ****All graded papers are to be signed and returned. Parents, please also note that we do not use individual texts for Social Studies at this level. You may get a feel for what we are studying by checking the required Social Studies folder that each child must have, according to the school supply list. I will try to keep updating our activities there.
