August 2009: Learning to Learn

Students will demonstrate decision making, setting goals, problem solving and communication skills.

 

Goal: Introduction to the role of school counselor. Character Trait: Caring and Giving

Career Cluster: Health Science and Human Services

 

September 2009:  Learning to Learn

Students will develop personal qualities that contribute to being an effective learner.

Students will employ strategies to achieve school success.

 

Goal: Students will be able to identify organization and study tips that aid in the learning process. Character Trait: Organization and Responsibility Career: Business Management and Administration and Finance.

 

Boys School Counseling: Monster Trucks and NASCAR

Monster Trucks and NASCAR: Utilizing a race car or monster truck, correlate study skills with race car and truck parts.

 

October 2009-Learning to Live

Students will develop safety and survival skills

 

Goal: Students will be able to identify skills to live a drug free lifestyle. Character Trait: Problem solving and Resourcefulness Career: Law/Public Services and Education Training

 

Boys School Counseling: Survivor Guys

Survivor Guys: Wilderness survivor skills will be associated with living a drug free life style through various low rope activities.

 

November 2009-Learning to Live

Students will understand and appreciate self.

 

Goal: Students will be able to identify life skills necessary to be mentally and emotionally healthy.  Character Trait: Perseverance and Sense of Humor Career: Government and Public Administration and Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources

 

Boys School Counseling: Royal Flush

Royal Flush: Utilizing the Royal Flush, guys will plan a round of self-reflection gaining skills to create a positive self image.

 

December 2009: Learning to Learn and Learning to Live

Students will understand and respect self.

Students will be able to develop a sense of community.

Student will understand the relationship of life in school, home, community and society.

 

Goal: Students will e able to identify strategies for bullying proof BSIS. Character Trait: Integrity

Career: Architecture Construction and Information Technology

 

 Boys School Counseling: Crude Dudes and ‘Tudes

Crude Dudes and ‘Tudes: Boys will take part in exploring the world of bullies and its cause and utilize a model of intervention.

 

January 2010: Learning to Live

Students will understand and appreciate home and family.

 

Goal: Students will be able to identify anger management skills.  Character Trait: Effort and Friendship

Career: Marketing and Science Technology and Engineering.

 

Boys School Counseling: Cowboys and Indians-Wounded Warriors

Cowboys and Indians:  Guys will explore the accepted dominate emotion and its cost. Guys will be exposed to healthy ways to deal with anger.

 

February 2010: Learning to Work

Students will demonstrate a positive attitude toward work and the ability to work together.

Students will understand the relationships among personal qualities, education, training and the world of work.

 

Goal: Students will identify career choices associated with career clusters. Character Trait: Curiosity and Initiative Career: Manufacturing

 

Boys School Counseling: Pow Wows and Wigwams

Pow Wow and Wigwams: Boys will follow a program designed to build from the ground up Tee Pees utilizing the 16 Career Clusters.

 

March 2010-Learning to Learn

Students will employ strategies to achieve school success.

Goal: Students will be able to utilize the traits of writing for PASS writing test. Character Trait: Cooperation and Work Ethic. Career:  Arts, A/V Technology and Communication and Hospitality and Tourism.

Boys School Counseling: PASS testing

April 2010-Learning to Work:

Students will explore careers and the connection of school and work.

Students will understand how community awareness relates to work.

 

Goal: Students will be able to indentify careers that correlate with their interest.  Character Trait: Pride and Patience Career: Transportation, Distribution and Logistics

Boys School Counseling: Legends and Pros

Legends and Pros:  Utilizing the data published by National Clearing House, teach the boys about the ratio of students who receive scholarships, and the number drafted. Utilize SCOIS to match the boys’ interest with careers. Involve in a Career Day where the boys will see men in non traditional roles.

 

May 2010-Learning to Learn:

Students will employ strategies to achieve school success.

Goal: Students will be able to apply the knowledge of standards for ELA, Math, Science/Social Studies while taking the Spring PASS test. Character Trait: Courage
