HOMEROOM:

* Chik Fil A forms were due today.

* The next school dance will be on February 19th.  Proceeds will be used by the Service Council to benefit Haitian Relief efforts.

* Please keep sending in can tabs (from soda cans, etc.) to benefit the Ronald McDonald House; we have a collection box in our room.

5-1

The students did not fare well as a whole on the Chapter 15 test; many did not show their work and/or check it carefully.  We reviewed the test in detail during class today.  I also reminded the students of the importance of asking questions in class (and asking for help afterwards) when they don't quite grasp a concept.  In this case, I was available for help on both Tuesday and Wednesday during recess last week, yet very few students took advantage of those opportunities.  As always, I'm also available every day during homeroom and lunch.

Also, I reiterated that any students who are not yet at the 100% mark on the multiplication facts should be studying them for about 10 minutes every night.  Knowledge of those facts is necessary for just about everything we'll do in Math from this point forward.

Up next: Adding & Subtracting Fractions, Common Denominators, LCDs (Least Common Denominators).  I plan to cover prime factorization along the way as well.

Next test: Monday, 2/12.

5-2, 5-3, 5-4, 5-5:

On the whole, the students fared very well on the Chapter 15 test.  That material forms the basis of what we'll be covering next (Fraction Operations).

Up next: Adding & Subtracting Fractions, Common Denominators, LCDs (Least Common Denominators).  I plan to cover prime factorization along the way as well.

Next test: Monday, 2/12.

5-6

We are continuing with geometric concepts this week.  Today, we built on knowledge gained in prior lessons by using protractors and compasses to construct congruent lines and angles.

Up next: Polygons (triangles and quadrilaterals, irregular/regular polygons, and geometric patterns).  We're on schedule for a test next Thursday (2/11) that will cover the material contained in Chapter 8.

Have a great week!

Mr. DeLuca
