Hello!

Welcome back to another year at SFDS!
My name is Miss Bistak and this is my second year at St. Francis.  I went to Padua (Class of 01') and played fastpitch softball and basketball, while participating in other various school activities such as Kairos or being a school tour guide.  For my undergrad, I attended Walsh University where I obtained my Bachelor's degree in Education with my concentration being Physical Education.  I am currently attending Cleveland State University for my masters degree in School Health Education with licensure.  I enjoy playing sports such as softball, volleyball, and basketball.  My new hobby is golf-which like I said is a new hobby so the skills are definitely not there yet!

I teach the Physical Education and Computer classes here at St. Francis and am looking forward to the upcoming year!

We purchased some new equipment this summer which will help to enhance the Physical Education program.  The idea I am stressing this year is that of balance.  Wellness and physical activity is a balancing act!  Calories In=Calories Out.

In other words the foods you eat each day needs to be equal or less than the energy you put forth everyday.  If you would like to further read up on this concept check out the following website! www.cdc.gov/healthyweight/calories/index.html

I want to be able to help the students realize that sports and exercise can be fun and needs to be an essential part of everyday life.  Do something that interests you and can be an activity that you will enjoy as you get older.  In order to achieve this I strive to provide a well-rounded Physical Education program that will allow the students to experience many different types of individual and team sports as well as exercise techniques and ideas. In order for students to get the most out of this experience, I ask that they bring their clothes to class each day they are scheduled.  The parent handbook gives very detailed instructions as to what the PE uniform should be.  K-3 will have class on Tuesdays this year while grades 4-8 will be on Mondays and Wednesdays.  Please take note of these changes.

I am also implementing a new idea for the year that will hopefully help promote good behavior and sportsmanship in the gym.  I am calling this my "PE All Stars". The kids will be getting a certificate that explains what they did that was awesome and I will hang it up on the wall in the hallway by my office which will become my "Hall of Fame".  The criteria for getting a certificate could be anything from showing good sportsmanship and Catholic behavior, being a great helper for clean up, athletics, always being prepared and bringing his/her clothes to class.  I hope to have many many "All Stars" this year!  Thank you for your cooperation!

Computer classes will be a very exciting time this year!  The students will continue to practice typing skills as well as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Use of software programs will help with typing, reading, and math skills to name a few. I look to incorporate webquests and SMARTBOARD lessons into the lessons that will hopefully make the learning experience all the more fun!  I am also using a website this year that has enabled me to organize and save important websites that the kids and teachers can use in their classes.  I am making this an option to use in your personal homes as there are websites that will be helpful for building research skills as well as topics that help build math, spelling, and even typing skills.  The website to visit is www.portaportal.com and once you have this site up you can access my account by going to the section that says "Guest Access".  In that box, simply enter the user name "bbistak" and that will take you to any and all websites I have saved for the kids.  There will be other various projects and assignments that will help to enhance their computer skills and help to ensure strong skills for their future!
