Welcome to Earth Science Geology, the Environment and the Universe Special Computer Project Due Monday, 11/16/09 We were in the computer lab on Tuesday and started working on our glacier report. It is a 2-3 page paper on 1 of 3 topics the students could pick. There is also an extra credit part to the report. The students can build a model of the glacier they picked or of the after effects of a glacier. They have all the info needed to complete these report. The Earth/Environmental sciencecurriculum focuses on the function of Earth's systems. Emphasis is placed onmatter, energy, plate tectonics, environmental awareness, materialsavailability, and the cycles that circulate energy and material through theearth system. Learners will study natural and technological systems. Theprogram strands and unifying concepts provide a context for teaching contentand process skill goals. All goals should focus on the unifying concepts: Systems, Order and Organization,Evidence, Models, and Explanation, Constancy, Change, and Measurement,Evolution and Equilibrium, Form and Function Course Competencies, Goals &Objectives: 1. The learner will develop abilities necessary to do andunderstand scientific inquiry in the earth and environmental sciences. 2. The learner will build an understanding of lithosphericmaterials, tectonic processes, and the human and environmental impacts ofnatural and human-induced changes in the lithosphere. 3. The learner will build an understanding of the origin and evolution of the earth system. 4. The learner will build an understanding of the hydrosphere and its interactions and influences on the lithosphere, the atmosphere, and environmental quality. 5. The learner will build an understanding of the dynamics andcomposition of the atmosphere and its local and global processes influencing climate and air quality. 6. Thelearner will acquire an understanding of the earth in the solar system and itsposition in the universe. PARENTS, send me your email address and I will send updates on upcoming test and when I send test home for corrections and progress reports home!!! "Click on the highlighted links under upcoming events at the top of the page for the current and future assignments. You can also click on a previous date and get past assignments by clicking on the word that shows up." "Copies of the class lecture notes can be found at the bottom of the page for downloading if you miss a day or so." Each Student receives a copy of the textbook. Each student will also need a notebookw/dividers, to keep notes and other materals in and pens/pencils. These items are to be brought each and every day to class. The Earth science students are learning a note taking strategy called "T" notes. All students are requierd to take notes and the notes must be in this format. Parents, please check it out and it should make it easy for you to help your child review for the test. The students must also turn these in for extra credit on the test. A sample of the "T" note format can be found under the file attachment area. "REQUIRED HOMEWORK FOR EVERY CHAPTER""Click on the highlighted links under upcoming events at the top of the page for the current assignments." **Regular Vocabulary, all bold words in chapter defined, due by the beginning of the chapter lecture. (Counts 1 point per word)**Big Vocab, added to the regular vocab, aditional information/depends upon statements, 2 examples, due the day of the test. (Counts 2 points/word and weighted 1 1/2 times)All Test count double with most questions counting 2 points each and the math questions counting 5 points each. All test are sent home to correct for additional points. If corrected 100%, the student can retake that test and correct it for additional points. THIS MUST BE DONE WITHIN A WEEK OT TWO OF THE ORGINAL TEST!!!
