Week of 11/23-27

Reading Vocabulary Words 

*No new words this week! 

*Remember to have your child practice addition and subtraction facts to 10!!!  This is so important as we move forth with our chapters!  The daily math work that your child brings home indicates the lesson that was taught in  class.

*Please note that your child's Poetry Notebook is coming home every Friday.  Thank you for reading the letter inside of the notebook and signing as a Lucky Listener. Please return the notebook the following Monday.  Many unsigned notebooks are returning to school on Monday.  Please make time to listen to your child read a few poems from this awesome Poetry Notebook.  Because we do not do 100 Book Challenge over the weekend, this is your child's homework. :)

*Make sure that the reading vocabulary words, which come home hole-punched, are placed on your child's word ring.  This ring stays at home!  This is apart of your child's daily homework.  Review the words as flash cards, use them in a sentence, or use them to play a game!  Your child will consistently see these words, in context, on our weekly Reading assessments.  **NO NEW STORY THIS WEEK** 

*As previously stated, our Spelling Tests will be every Friday, or on Thursday if there is no school on a Friday.  Please refer to the letter I sent home regarding our spelling procedures.  **NO SPELLING TEST THIS WEEK**

*100 Book Challenge-

Thank you for returning your participation in 100 Book Challenge.  Remember, you will see a blue 100 Book Challenge Bag come home, along with your child's 100 Book Challenge folder, appropriate leveled skills card, and two books.  This bag will come home daily and must be returned to school the following day.  We will not be doing 100 Book Challenge over the weekend, as we have our Poetry Notebook that goes home.

Thank you for diligently signing your child's reading log every night!  You may now complete one or two steps of reading per night.  PLEASE do not go beyond two steps. One step is sufficient!  Remember that each step is 15 minutes of reading!  Thus, if your child completes two steps, he/she read for 30 minutes.  Your child and I sincerely appreciate your help!

 CAVS - Read to Achieve

Thank you for returning your child's Read to Achieve Reading log!  Even though our class didn't have 100% participation on 100% of the days, each student who simply participated will receive a CAVS prize.  The prizes are to be sent to us after January 1, 2010.  Thank you for your support!
