DearParents/Guardians,
I’mlooking forward to a wonderful year with your children. I am always amazed how first graders blossomin one year! I love working withthem! We will be doing some initialassessments for the first few weeks in first grade. This will help me to get to know the childrenand their academic needs. If you haveany other information which you think I should know to help me understand yourchild better, please write me a note or call me at school or at home. If I’m not available right away, I’ll callyou back as soon as possible. My home phone number is 477-0310. The schoolphone number is 429-9367. My schoole-mail address is cwilde@willingtonct.org.
Iwill be sending newsletters home periodically to let you know what’s happeningin our class. These newsletters will also be posted on my website. Go to http://willingtonpublicschools.org. Clickon staff. Then go to my name. Pleasesend me your email address (if you have one) so we can communicate in thisway.
I will also be asking for parent volunteers inthe near future to help in the classroom and copy room.
Wewrite in journals daily. Each day agroup of three or four children will read their journals. These children will be able to “Show andTell” during snack on their “journal reading day.” Your child’s “Show and Tell” day is asfollows.
Monday:Matthew, Tuesday:John B., Joshua C., Kaitlyn, Eleanore, Aubrie Wednesday: Evan, Rachael, Jacob, Amari, Madeline Thursday: Nikolas, JD, Jillian, Katherine
Thechildren are asked to show something of interest and tell a few things abouttheir item. I’m sure we’ll see somewonderful things! If we have a day off, your child’s group will double up with the children on the next day. Pleasehelp your child remember to bring a “show and tell” item on his/her day.
Whenyour child brings his/her papers home, please go over them together. Let your child know you are interested in thework that he/she does in school each day. Occasionally your child may have to finish class work at home and/ormake some corrections on papers he/she did in class. Please have your child return the finished orcorrected paper(s) to me on the following day. I appreciate your help with this. The children are forming their school “work ethics” in first grade. It is important to encourage your child to dohis/her best work at all times and to check papers over for completion beforehanding them in. Math homework isusually due the day after it is brought home. Please check your child’s backpack daily for work that needs to becompleted and returned. The red foldershould contain papers and communications and should be brought to school eachday.
Pleasehelp your child choose a healthy snack to bring to school each day. We’ll be studying about good nutrition inNovember! Also, our classroom doesn’thave a water fountain. The children seemto get quite thirsty. I suggest that yousend a water bottle to school with your child if possible.
Monday: P.E. Tuesday: Music Wednesday: P.E. and Spanish Thursday: Art Friday: Library
Thankyou for your time. I know you’re as busyas I am getting back into the swing of things. I’ll be sending another letter home soon with more information. Have a nice week!
Thankyou!
