Continue to read Holes. Complete reading to chapter 44 by March 12th and complete the book by March 19th. We will have a quiz on Part 2 on Friday, March 19th.


Friday 2/26:
Complete newspaper article about Sam, the Onion Man.
Read chapters 29-34 by Friday 3/5.

Wednesday, 2/24
Type your final copy of your character sketch according to your style manual.

Tuesday, 2/23
Complete rough draft of your character sketch of a character from Holes. Carefully follow the directions for your rough draft on page 46 of "Student's Page" packet. We will peer edit in class on Wednesday.

2/5 Read through chapter 28 (Part 1) by Monday 2/22.
In-class written character sketch on Part 1 on 2/23.
Test on Part 1 of Holes Monday 2/22.
STUDY pronouns and adverbs!

2/1: Read Holes chapters 6-15 by Friday.

QUIZ on Wednesday on drills 21-25 and on adverbs.

1/4:
Making final preparations for your skit. Bring in materials needed for a final rehearsal on Tuesday. Presentations will begin on Wednesday.

12/16:
Continue to research your famous person. Make sure you consult at least three sources--a biography book,  an online source and a source of your choice. Write Cornell notes on each source and research the answers to all eight questions. When you finish your research you may begin working with your partner on how you will present your famous persons.

12/11:
Read and record Cornell notes on your biography. We will go to the computer lab on Tuesday to research the subject of our biographies. Make sure that you record all of the information required for your bibliography as you take notes.

12/2:
Finish writing summary of the biography of Wilma Rudolph

11/18:
Finish "Fact or Fiction" if necessary.

11/2:
No English homework this week. Study for your remaining assessments!

10/18:
Study your Study Guide for the assessment test tomorrow and Friday. (Study Guide is also attached below).

10/26:
Finish "Alliteration & Onomatopoeia" worksheet.

10/21:
Personal Narrative must be typed according to the Howard County Style Manual. Due on Thursday.

Grammar/drill QUIZ on Monday. Make sure your drills are up to date.

10/19:
Revise your rough draft. That means improve it, not just add commas or correct spelling!
    Add dialogue
    Add at least two similes or metaphors
    Underline every verb
    Replace three "dead" verbs (is/are/was/were; have/has/had; do/did/done) with action verbs.
    -- Be sure I can see the improvements on your rough draft when you hand it in with the final draft.
    -- Your project folder should contain: "I Remember"; your photo album; the chart of your personal narrative; the rough draft(s). No other papers should be in the project folder.

10/13:
Complete rough draft of your personal narrative--due Monday, 10/19.

10/12:
"Direct Objects, Subjects and Verbs" worksheet. (20 min)

Choose the topic of your story and fill out the story element chart about your story. Due Monday (30 min)
