World Civilizations - periods 1,3,4,5 + 7
Monday Aug. 25- Teacher Inservice Tu. Aug. 26 - Welcome back! Â Classroom expectations, rules and procedures will be discussed. Â Textbooks will be passed out. Â All textbooks must be covered by Friday! Â Students must sign their name IN INK, inside the front cover of the book. Wed. Aug. 27- Reminder to students to cover books by Friday! Historical brainstorming- As a class, students will recall things they have learned about history. Once an answer is written on the board, the class will attempt to explain the importance of each event. Th. Aug. 28- Class will begin to review previous important civilizations, concepts and belief systems: Societies will include Egypt, Greece and Rome, Concepts will feudalism, Belief Systems will include Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam and Christianity. Students will then synthesize the information into a rough summary of early civilizations and use that as the basis for the first writing assignment of the year, that will be due Friday, Sept. 5. Fri. Aug. 29- Students will continue to review concepts mentioned in Thursdays lesson plans. Mon. Sept. 1- No School, Labor Day! Tu. Sept. 2- Classes will cover Feudalism and begin studying the 5 major belief systems. Wed. Sept. 3- Classes will finish 5 major belief systems. Th. Sept. 4- Classes will begin Ch. 1, the Renaissance. Class will listen to a brief introduction/explanation of what the Renaissance is. Assignment: students will use an anticipation guide to preview the chapter. Chapter Focus Question: How did the Renaissance shape European art, thought and religion? Fri. Sept. 5- 1st writing assignment due! Students will be quizzed over Ch. 1 Sect. 1. Mon. Sept. 8- Classes will finish Ch.1 Sect. 1 (3 level) anticipation guide, silentreading and class discussion on accuracy of statements.
Tu. Sept. 9- Focused free write Ch. 1 Sect. 1, 3 minutes, 5facts from Ch.1.1. Classes willthen take a Quiz over same section. Class will preview Ch1.2.
Wed. Sept. 10- Class will silently read 1.2 and then playStump the Teacher. At class end,students will Collins write 5 things they learned today. Students will be introduced to conceptof Cornell notes.
Th. Sept. 11- Roundtable discussion on 9/11 attacks. Questions to be discussed: How has theUnited States changed since? Arewe safer today than 7 years ago? What does the future hold? What role does the U.S. play in international affairs? Homework: Students will come up with 5 ways that the U.S.has changed since 9/11 and predict 3 possible future events with regards toU.S.- international affairs.
Fri. Sept. 12- Students will hand in homework assignment and participate in classdiscussion on the changing role of the U.S. Students will then preview Ch. 1.3 and begin anticipationguide over the same section. Mon. Sept. 15- 1.3 Anticipation Guide. Homework 1.3 Cornell Notes Tu. Sept. 16- 1.3 Cornell Notes will be corrected. 1.3 Quiz. Wed. Sept. 17- 1.4 Anticipation Guide. Homework 1.4 Cornell Notes. Th. Sept. 18- Check 1.4 Cornell Notes. 1.5 anticipation guide. Homework 1.5 Cornell Notes Fri. Sept. 19- 1.5 cornell notes checked. Writing assignment on Scientific Revolution due. Class Review for test on Tuesday! Tu. Sept. 23 - Ch. 1 Test. When completed, pick up a map of Southeast Asia. Label countries, take it home,using at least 5 different colors, trace the border of each country as a way to help to visually distinguish between nations. Wed. Sept. 24- Guided Cornell Notes over section Ch. 2 Sect. 1 The Search for Spices. Homework: complete Cornell notes. Weekly writing assignment: Given a writing prompt, complete a one page essay supporting this statement. Many people argue that globalization is a recent phenomena. I would aruge that globalization began with the Age of Explorers. In this paper, I will look at three different scenarios that prove this statement. Th. Sept. 25- Ch. 2 Sect. 2 PQRST. Homework: Cornell Notes Ch. 2 Sect. 2., study for Quiz tomorrow. Fri. Sept. 26- Ch. 2 Sect. 1+2 Quiz. Sect. 3 Anticipation Guide. Mon. Sept. 29- Ch. 2.2 cornell notes will be checked and reviewed. Homework: 2.3 Cornell notes. Th. Oct. 2- 2.3 Quiz. Homework: 2.4 Cornell notes. Fri. Oct. 3- 2.4 Cornell notes will be covered. Writing assignment on globablization due. Aug. 28- Class will review Reconstruction by teaming with a partner to write a one page summary of Reconstruction that will be due Friday. Fri. Aug. 29- Class will turn in one page summary of Reconstruction. Class will Collins write 5 things they can recall from Reconstruction. Homework: For Tuesday, each student must have a current event article, dealing with National governmental news to discuss with the class for Tuesday. Students must also include a brief 50 words or less, summary of the article, a rationale for choosing the article and a personal reaction to the article. Instructions on how to type the paper were included in the class syllabus. Mon. Sept. 1- No School, Labor Day! Tu. Sept. 2- Current Events. Students will bring a current event article, pertaining to the federal government, along with a typed reaction and summary, as assigned Friday. Students will take turns discussing/commenting/analyzing various articles. Wed. Sept. 3- Class will begin Ch.5 by identifying vocabulary words, identifying important people and concepts. Class will be given a study guide/ chapter review packet. Th. Sept. 4- Ch. 5 terms will be checked. Class will then discuss what problems settlers moving west might face. Class will then begin covering "Cultures Clash on the Praries." Class will write 5 ways that the migrating pioneers could have clashed with Native Americans. Fri. Sept. 5- Students will be quizzed over Ch. 5 Sect. 1. Mon. Sept. 8-Students will complete Ch.5.2 anticipationguide, silent reading and class discussion on anticipation guide.
Tu. Sept. 9- class will briefly review Ch.5.1+5.2 beforequiz over same. With remainingtime, class will preview Ch.5.3., complete 5.3 anticipation guide.
Wed. Sept. 10- Class will complete 5.3 anticipation guide,silent reading and corrections. Remainingtime, class will review Ch.5 for test on Friday.
