                               WELCOME TO ENGLISH

     The purpose of the English Class is to prepare students with a variety of language skills.  This year students will study various genre of literature.  Students will be able to synthesize, analyze, and criticize various literature selections.

     We will also review basic concepts in grammar and writing.  Vocbulary building will be emphasized weekly to increase the studnt knowledge.

     Students will study, practice, and write paragraphs, stories, research papers, literacy critiques, and essays.  Writing will include but are not limited to expository, narrative, and descriptive essays that exhibit good word choice and dialogue.  Students will critique professional and peer writings to gain additional knowledge in order to refine their communication style.

     Students will make formal and informnal reports that exhibit an increased knowledge in their research skills.

Students will read a variety of Literature.  Books can be checked out from the school's library, or purchased from the book store.  There will be times when books will be purchased through scholastic magazines.  Students will be given ample time to be prepared with the required reading material.

Classroom Expectations

  1.  I expect sstudents to be prepared for class daily.  Students must use their own materials and supplies.  Burrowing will not be allowed.

  2.  If class is missed, it is the responsibility of the student to see a fellow classmate or me to get the information that is missed.  Every student is expected to study daily and be ready to actively engage in the learning process.

  3.  Student must keep ELA notebook with daily written assignments/class notes.

Classroom Rules

   1.  Respect the rights of others.

   2.  No talking, moving, or eating without permission.

   3.  Be prepared to work daily.

   4.  Have the proper materials needed for class.

Grading Scale

     Tests--------------------------- 40%

     Quizzes------------------------ 20%

     Projects/Book Reports--------25%

     Classwork----------------------15%

     Booik reports must be typed written using a 12 point font and a justified format.  Book reports must be type written using the format given/taught by me.
