Student of the week: Bailey Phillips

Dear Parents,

If you want to find out the AR book level of books you have at home, go to ARbookfinder.com.

Put in the title of the book and it will tell you the AR level and the AR points the book is worth.

I found this website. It has a great list of books.

The Louisiana Department of Education encourages all students to read every day during the summer.  Reading is the biggest factor in your child’s  academic success. Children who read more do better inschool. Our goal is for every student to become a capable reader and to develop alove for reading. Parents can help theirchildren reach that goal by reading to them and with them daily. If your children are already reading, encourage them to read at least 30 minutes daily. Involve them in reading activities at the public library. Help your child see that books are passports tothe world.

Tips for Grades 3-5 Parents

Have books, magazines, comics and newspapers available for your child to read. Encourage your child to read for a specified period of time every day. Ask your child to tell you in his/her own words what happened in a story.Encourage your child to role play favorite stories or write in a journal about characters in the stories Allow your child to choose books that interest him/her.

Let your child see you read every day. Limit the amount of time your child spends watching television and playing video

games. Create a quiet place, free from distractions, where your child my read. Encourage older children to read to

younger brothers and sisters.
