Kinder News
Week of May 21, 2012

This week our theme will be under the sea!  We will be reading What's Under the Sea?, All About Whales and Dolphins, All About Sharks, and Finding Nemo.
We will learn basic facts about many of our sea creatures so we are ready for our trip to the NY Aquarium next week!

Our lowercase letter formation will continue this week with the letters j, p, r, n, m.  Students will be learning lowercase letter formation using the Handwriting Without Tears program.

In math, students will be focusing on measurement.  We will finish our measurement centers this week!  Today, we measured how tall we were using our math links!

In Writer's Workshop, we are finishing our first "All About" piece.  We are turtle experts.  We know basic facts, the parts of a turtle, and some of the different kinds of turtles!  Students will work on the cover this week, and books will be sent home at the end of the week!

Centers:
Reading Groups: End of Year Assessments
Computers: Starfall
Measurement
Writing: Kindergarten Memory Book (100th day page)

Here are a few things to remember.
*Make sure you check your child's folder everyday after school for information pertaining to our class and to view your child's daily work.

*Also, please remember to label your child's uniform, especially gym sweatshirts and sweatpants, since these items may be taken off during gym and tend to get mixed up as to whom the owner is.

*We are finished with guided reading books and spelling journals for the year...can't believe there are only 3 weeks left!

*Remember:  Our field trip to the NY Aquarium is next Tuesday, May 29th.  More information will be sent home this week about the trip.  Be on the lookout for handouts in your child's folder!

*Friday will be a half day because we are having Field Day!  Students will be dismissed at 12:30.  There is aftercare available but only until 4:00 pm.

*Please make sure your child is practicing their graduation part at home.  We are practicing daily in class, and it would be helpful if they knew their part as soon as possible.  Thank you :)

*A special thanks to Mr. Gregory, Brandon's Dad, for coming in on Friday and planting with our class.  The flowers were beautiful and the students had a great time!
