WELCOME TO THE NEW 2009-2010 SCHOOL YEAR!
It's great to see all my 'old' friends and meet my 'new' friends at EHGEMS in music class!
This year all children in grades K through 5 receive 40 minutes of music class per week! During our first week of class we are playing music review games and learning about the musical life of Michael Jackson.
Kindergarteners will learn about the difference between their speaking and singing voices. They learn to 'find' their singing voice if they haven't already. They also try hard to remember where they sit (assigned seat) in our singing circle!
During September, we also review the old favorite, The Rule Song. This song reminds students of behavioral expectations during music time. Behavior grades are based on these 5 rules which we perform as our opening song in each music lesson:
THE RULE SONG
To get along with all my friends and Mrs. Hickel too, when I come to music class, five things I must do:
1) Follow directions, the first time they’re given!
2) Raise your hand, and wait to be called!
3) Keep your hands and feet and your mouth to yourself!
4) Participate! That means join in the fun!
5) Play the instruments only when told!
I look forward to another year of learning and creating music with your children! Please feel free to contact me at school, should you have any questions or concerns.
I teach music on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays in Room 19. I can be reached at (860) 622-5400 on those days or by email: dhickel@crec.org.
