Mrs. Cobb - 7th Grade - Reading We are reading and discussing the novel The Confessions of Charlotte Doyle. This is an adventure that takes place on the high seas. Charlotte is a young lady traveling with a crew, ready for mutiny. As we read, we are using Larry Bell's 12 Powerful Words (listed below) to help with our comprehension.12 POWERFUL WORDS Trace Analyze Infer Evaluate Formulate Describe Support Explain Summarize Compare Contrast Predict Math February - March 2010 In math,we are focusing on the following goals and objectives from the NC Standard Course of Study: Goal 1 - Numbers and Operations Students will understand and compute with rational numbers Objective 1.0 Develop and use ratios, proportions, and percents to solve problems Objective 1.03 Develop flexibility in solving problems by selecting strategies and using mental computation, estimation, calculators or computers, and paper and pencil Goal 3 - Geometry Students will learn to use and understand the properties and relationships in geometry. Objective 3.02 Identify, define, and describe similar and congruent polygons with respect to angle measures, length of sides, and proportionality of sides. Objective 3.03 Use scaling and proportional reasoning to solve problems related to similar and congruent polygons Goal 5 - Algebra Students will demonstrate an understanding of linear relations and fundamental algebraic concepts Objective 5.03 Use and evaluate algebraic expressions, equations and inequalities to solve problems Gradesheets - Students have a gradesheet which keeps a daily record of each student's math grades. This gradesheet is to be shared with parents on a regular basis. Parents will be asked to sign gradesheets several times each quarter. Notebooks - Each student has been provided a notebook in which to copy math notes. These notes are to be reviewed nightly to prepare for tests. PODS - Problems of the Day (PODS) are warm-ups to start out each class period. These PODS give the students a chance to investigate various ways to solve math problems. PODS are graded - EASY 100's! Homework - Some form of math homework is assigned nightly, Monday-Thursday. It should take less than 20 minutes but is important review. Please check the homework hotline for this information necessary. My planning is 12:30 - 2:00.
