My name is Mr. Herring and I am teaching mathematics and language arts this school year. During the first two periods of each school day, my instruction will takes place in a small group setting to ensure intense direct and individualized instruction in the areas of mathematics and language arts. The last two periods of my school day consist of language arts co-teaching with Mrs. Taylor and mathematics co-teaching with Mrs. Zech. Check below and see what to expect during this school year. Moving right along.... Language Arts We finished "A Christmas Carol" before Christmas break and are now focusing on reading comprehension. Each week, we study a new set of vocabulary words from our Word Skills language program. *We have started learning the 12 Powerful Words that will promote success on the EOGs. Our goal is for the students to know the first four words by January 8, 2010. *Grammar, Vocabulary and Writing will be a focus of the entire school year* Mathematics So far this school year we have covered: Data Analysis Measures of Central Tendency Stem-and-Leaf Plots Box and Whisker Plots Number Sense and Algebraic Reasoning Performing operations with rational numbers Algebraic expressions Solving equations Operations with Integers Fractions and Decimals Comparing and Ordering Decimals Operations with Decimals We are currently performing operations with FRACTIONS. |
