FLU Q and A

Q. What is H1N1/Swine Flu and how does it spread?

A. The 2009 H1N1 flu (referred to early on as Swine Flu) is caused by the H1N1 virus, a new, contagious strain of the influenza A virus. Like other cold and flu viruses, it spreads from person to person through coughing, sneezing or touch.

Q. How can I reduce the spread of germs that cause flu?

A. By regularly disinfecting the surfaces kids touch most, you can help reduce the spread of influenza A viruses, including the 2009 H1N1 virus. Clorox® Disinfecting Wipes are effective against the flu virus (including the 2009 H1N1 virus) and common bacteria like Staphylococcus (staph), Salmonella and E. coli.*

‡Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) believes, based on available scientific information, that the currently registered influenza A virus products will be effective against the 2009 H1N1 flu strain and other nfluenza A virus strains on hard, nonporous surfaces.

Fighting colds & flu in school starts with you … and these THREE SIMPLE STEPS:

1

2

Take 5 to disinfect.

Want to kill 99.9% of the germs* that can cause colds and flu? All it takes is five minutes and a canister of Clorox® Disinfecting Wipes. Use them to wipe down household surfaces kids touch most:

• Phones

• Doorknobs

• Toy storage bins

• Refrigerator handles

• Light switches

• TV remotes

• Faucets

Teach kids the ABCs of healthy hygiene.

Always wash hands the right way:

Before and after eating, after using the bathroom, with soap and warm water and for at least 20 seconds: the time it takes to sing "Happy Birthday" twice.

Be aware of germs and know where they can hide, especially on shared school supplies.

Cough and sneeze into your elbows and tissues—not hands.

3

Donate Clorox® Disinfecting Wipes.

Many teachers spend their own money on classroom supplies, including wipes. Do them a favor, and donate a canister or two to help them keep your child’s classroom cleaner and healthier.†

CDC ALERT!

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention now recommends that ALL CHILDREN ages 6 months to 19 years old get flu vaccinations every year.
