Homework for:

Tuesday, 6/8/10:  "Physical Evidence" worksheet due tomorrow. The file for the "Physical Evidence" Powerpoint Notes is too large and will not load on this site.  For those of you that were absent, I will allow you to turn the worksheet in on Friday.  I will have a few printouts of the notes tomorrow if you need them!

Monday, 6/7/10:  You will have time in class tomorrow to finish the Physical Evidence worksheet. Science Grand Slam Pledge Money due this Friday, 6/4/10! Thank you all for your participation and support!

Thursday, 5/27/10:  Finish classwork: due tomorrow, Friday, 5/28.

1. Read pages 130 and 131 (all parts, including diagrams) of the green “Cells and Heredity” textbook.

2.  Answer #1 on page 131 under “Weigh the Impact”.

3.  Answer the questions below.  Be sure to answer all parts of each question.

 

a. What do you know about the Gulf Oil Spill that is occurring?  What have you heard on the news?  What are your reaction/thoughts to this event?

b. How might this oil spill affect the environment and fishing industries?  What else might be affected by this oil spill?

1.  Due Tuesday, May 4th: 1. Classroom Measurement Lab and "Measuring Mass, Volume, and Density" lab. ALL questions must be answered on each lab.

2.  Due no later than Wednesday, May 5th:  Test Corrections.  See Ms. Long for instructions.

 

Monday, 4/26/10: 

1. Finish reading pgs. 16-20 (Chapter 1 Section 2 "Measuring Matter" is the title if using the online text).  Answer checkpoint question on page 20 of class text, or if using the online text, it's the checkpoint problem at the bottom of the page on density.  2.  Complete and turn in Science Grand Slam forms by tomorrow!

1.  Only one side of the card can be used.

2.  Only one layer is allowed.

3.  Magnifying lenses will not be provided, so make sure you can read it!

4.  You must make your own card.

5.  You are NOT allowed to use another student's card.

 

Monday, 4/5/10: 

1.  Finish 2-column notes on "Changes of State".  Be sure to draw and color a picture that represents each change of state.  Due tomorrow, 4/6/10.

2.  Study for Quiz #2 on Matter.  Quiz is this Thursday, 4/8/10. 

Wednesday, 3/31/10:  In addition to Monday's homework (see homework below under 3/29/10), you also need to complete the "Separating Mixtures" Lab Activity questions if you did not finish them in class today.  I will collect the lab worksheets tomorrow for a grade.

Monday, 3/29/10:

1.  Complete two-sided worksheet (graphic organizer) on Mixtures.  Complete BOTH sides.  I will check this on Thursday, April 1st. 

2.  I will also check the "Building Compounds" Activity worksheet on Thursday, April 1st.

Monday, 3/22/10:  1.  Complete worksheet (2-sided) - "Who Am I?" and "Atomic Structure".  Due Wednesday, 3/24/10  Friday, 3/26/10.  2.  Study for Biolingo List #5 Quiz on Friday.  Note:  This quiz will NOT include root words from the previous list.

Thursday 3/18 - Friday 3/19:  1.  Finish 2-column notes (two-sided) on Metals.  Due Monday, 3/22. Have a GREAT weekend!

Wednesday, 3/17/10:

1.  "Counting Atoms" worksheet: A and B periods: due Thursday, 3/18.  C and D periods: due Friday, 3/19.  I will also check the 3 checkpoint questions (from Tuesday) the same day.

2.  Reminder:  Student-Led Conferences are this Thursday and Friday!

Tuesday, 3/16/10:

1.  Finish Identifying Substances worksheet.  2.  Complete all three checkpoint questions within Chapter 3, Section 3 "Metals".  Worksheet and questions due tomorrow, 3/17/10.

Wednesday, 3/10/10: 

1.  Complete "Families of the Periodic Table" worksheet.  You must do the last problem "What's Next".  List two facts about Hydrogen that you did not already know.  Be sure to cite your source!  Due Friday, 3/12/10.

2.  (Blue Class textbook) - Read pgs 88-95 (Section 3 - Metals).  Answer 1-3 on page 91 under "Math - Analyzing Data".  (Online textbook) - Read section 3.3 "Metals".  Graph and questions are on the second page of this section under Alkali metals. Due Friday, 3/12/10.

Tuesday, 3/2/10: Online Textbook issue is now fixed! The "Chemical Building Blocks" (blue textbook) is now available to all students online.  Use your original username and password to logon.  If you have forgotten your username or password see Ms. Long right away!

1.  Read ALL of section 2 in Ch. 3 "Organizing the Elements".  Due Thursday, 3/4/10.

2.  Element Diagram - due Thursday 3/4/10  Friday, 3/5/10.

  • Draw and label an element of your choice as shown on the periodic table. 
  • You must draw and label the following items: atomic #, symbol, name, atomic mass.
  • Provide a definition (in your own words) for atomic # and atomic mass.  Write your definition for each next to its label on the diagram.
  • At the bottom of your element box, list two other characteristics about your element of choice.  The first characteristic must come from the periodic table itself (state of matter, what type of element it is...metal, etc....use the keys to help you) The second characteristic must come from a source other than the periodic table itself.  Questions to consider...where do you find the element in nature?  What products are made of this element?  Be sure to state this second characteristic in your own words, and be sure to cite your source on the back of your diagram. 
  • Your element diagram must be neat and organized, and all of the items above must be completed to receive full credit.

Thursday, 2/25/10

1.  Complete the 2-sided worksheet "Introduction to Atoms".  Due Tuesday, March 2nd.  Online access to the blue textbook "Chemical Building Blocks" is now available on the Pearson SuccessNet website.  Use the same username and password that you used for the green textbook.

Monday, 2/22/10

1. Geologic Time Scale worksheet due tomorrow 2/23/10.

Tuesday, December 8th:  Complete the "Mitosis" Reading worksheet.  Be sure to answer ALL questions on the back.  I will be grading each question of this assignment.  Due Friday, December 11th

Monday, December 7th:  1.  Finish Meiosis Diagram:  Must include the following:  Title, Labeled Steps (Prophase I, etc.), each step/cell must be colored, provide a short description of what happens during each step (in your own words).  Make sure that your name is on the front.  Meiosis Diagram from projector has been attached to this website.  Scroll all the way down to the bottom to find it (under "downloads").  2.  Study Guide (there are two sides!).  Both Meiosis Diagram and Study Guide are due on Wednesday, Dec. 9th.

Tuesday, November 24th: 

Have a Happy Thanksgiving!! 1.  The Dragon Traits Lab will be collected on Tuesday, Dec. 1st.  Make sure you put your completed Dragon materials in the correct class pile on Monday if you have not already done so.  2.  Punnett Square Worksheet (working backwards) - I will check this on Tuesday, Dec. 1st. as well.  Enjoy your break!

Monday, November 23rd:

1.  1st Trimester Science Notebook Check tomorrow (11/24/09)!!

Each item on the list will be worth 5 pts.  An additional 5 points will be given for overall neatness and organization.  The Notebook Check will be worth a total of 30 points.

1.  "Forest Champions" worksheet.  Read the front side, and answer the questions on the back.  You do not have to complete the "What's Next?" section at the very bottom.  This is due Thursday, Nov 5th.

2.  "Variation in a Population" Lab Data Sheet (including questions on last page) and 3 graphs (partner data on lima bean length, leaf blade length, and leaf stem length) due this Friday, Nov 6th.  You do not have to complete the very last section titled "More to Explore". 

3.  Reminder:  Biolingo #2 QUIZ this Friday, Nov 6th.  Be sure to review list #1 as well, as 2 words will be chosen from this list and added to the quiz. 

**Important Note:  Lab Project Improvements due no later than Friday, November 20th!

Thursday, October 29th:  No Science homework today.  Reminder #1:  Tri-County field trip tomorrow.  Make sure you have turned in your field trip forms to your homeroom teacher!  Reminder #2:  Lab Project Corrections due Friday, November 20th. 

Wednesday, October 28th:  Finish reading and finish checkpoint questions.  If using classroom textbook, you should read pages 76-81, answering checkpoint questions on page 78 and 81.  If you are using the online text, you should read pages 80-85 instead.  Answer the first two checkpoint questions you come across, answering them on a sheet of notebook paper.  The questions should be put in your porfolio in science class.

Wednesday, October 21st:  Complete "chart" worksheet that compares the processes of photosynthesis and cellular respiration. 

Tuesday, October 20th:  Finish Split Page Notes on Cellular Respiration.  The answers to these questions can be found on pages 55-59 of the online textbook.  The cellular respiration material starts on page 49 if using the classroom textbook.

Monday, October 19th:  Review notes on Photosynthesis.  Notes are now attached to this website (under "Downloads" at the very bottom of this page...scroll ALL the way down.) 

Friday, October 16th:  Finish Photosynthesis crossword puzzle.  Have a GREAT weekend!

Wednesday, October 14th:  The following assignments are ALL due this Friday, 10/16/09.  1.  Read pgs 55-59 if using the online textbook, and pgs 49-53 if using the classroom textbook.  2.  Complete the worksheet "A Leaf's Work is Never Done". 3.  Partner Project Report is due.  Remember to follow the project outline for full points!

Thursday, October 8th:  1.  Study for Biolingo Quiz.  2.  NOTICE:  The online text is a different version from the textbooks we have in class.  The information is the same; however, the page numbers are slightly different.  You should read pages 50-54 from Chapter 2, Lesson 1 on Photosynthesis.   Do not read the pages that were listed on the chalk board. Also, be sure to complete the Split-Page notes.  You will not find the answer to the last question in the reading.  Please use another source to find the answer.  This is due tomorrow!  Let's get another letter for popcorn!  

Monday, October 5th:  Online Textbook Registration.  Use the instruction sheet given in class today.  Be sure to write your name and user name on this sheet once you have created it.  I will check this tomorrow.

Wednesday, Sept. 30th:  1.  If you or your partner forgot any of your science project materials today, make sure that you bring them tomorrow!  2.  Get your Scientific Method Quiz SIGNED by a parent/guardian if you earned a C or lower on it.  I must have this signature by Friday, October 2nd.  You will be given some time in class tomorrow to finish the reading checkpoint questions and Organelle chart. 

Thursday, Sept. 24:  Complete practice worksheet on Operational Definitions.  Due tomorrow, Friday 9/25th at the beginning of class.  It must be complete to receive credit!  Reminder:  Science Fair 101 worksheet packet due Tuesday, Sept. 29th.  Get it done early so that you don't have homework over the long weekend!

NOTICE:  There will be NO quiz tomorrow.  The quiz on the scientific method has been resheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 23 due to a change in tomorrow's schedule (due to the Magazine Drive).  You now have one extra day to study. Take advantage of it!

Thursday, Sept. 17th:  Finish SpongeBob Scientific Method Worksheet.  Reminder:  Quiz on Scientific Method and Variables next Tuesday, 9/22.  

Wednesday, Sept. 16th:  Final Airplane Lab is due tomorrow, Thursday 9/17/09!

Tuesday, Sept. 15th:  Finish "Variables Practice Problems" Worksheet.  Due tomorrow, Wenesday, Sept. 16th.  Reminder:  Airplane Lab due this Thursday!  Each student must have a copy of all lab items, except the discussion and conclusion paragraphs.  You can turn in just one discussion and one conclusion per pair of students.

Monday, Sept. 14th:  This is not "official" homework yet; however, you can work on it at home if you wish.  I will discuss the requirements of the graph, disscussion and conclusion paragraphs tomorrow in class.  Your final paper airplane lab is due this Thursday, 9/17/09.  Follow the rubric!  Remember: While you are working with a partner, each student must turn in his/her own copy of each component of the lab.   Your individual lab must include the following (all labeled!)

3.  Materials List and Procedure

4.  Data table

5.  One graph

6.  Discussion (a written explanation of your results)
