Important Dates

March 17th. 2010- early release

Happy Happenings

We are over the snow days...brr...

We are writing Mrs. Walser's second graders.

We became their "pencil pals." We have heard back from our Enochville pals and we are currently composing our second letters. We were so excited to get mail!  (they aren't bills-ha,ha)

We have learned 12 POWERFUL WORDS!

Just ask us to sing them to you.

We are learning how to UNRAAVEL in Reading and Math. Just ask us our steps. We even are coming up with our own hand movements to be able to remember each step.

We can show you!

Do you remember "Hot Potato" when you were younger?

Our class has been hopping from color behavior potato to another.  We use the basic eight colors. It enables the students to regain the more desirable color, feeling good that they changed the less desirable behavior.  The potatoes are linked to points that they keep up with to redeem on Fun Friday.  They have been excited for the individual ownership and are becoming so proud of themselves. Just ask. Fridays are buzzin'...

 open book               Reading Logs

Your child has been bringing home a reading log.  The reading log will come home every day.  Your child should read for ten minutes in the evening.  He / She may choose to bring a book from school or read one from home.  Parents need to document in the reading log, the date and title of the book, then sign and return each morning.

Some of the students have enjoyed their books so much that they have shared a written response with me.  I love that families are going the extra mile!  It creates love of learning literature.  I would encourage the rest of the families to join in the project.  It has become like a little book club.  The children share their book by writing a bit about it.  They have been exciting others to read the next book.  It has been so fun to see the enthusiasm!

Our class currently has earned 11 bees. We will have a special game activity for meeting 10 bees last week. At 20 bees, we will do an activity with Miss Kess, our head custodian. At Shive, we all look out for our children and even Miss Kess is aware how hard we are working.  She plans to help us celebrate our goal with some kind of adventure. The children are really working hard together as a team to reach this goal.

Mrs. Bondurant played the piano for us meeting our last 20 bees. She had a sing-along. We sang all kinds of silly songs! It was so much fun to have Mrs.B. play just for US! She took the front off the piano so we could see how the keys worked. It was so neat! We felt really special!
