January 17, 2012 We are starting literature circles in class. There will be 3-4 novels being read in class at the same time. Students will be assigned one novel and will be working with 3-4 other students in the class. Students will be given work to complete associated with the novel they are reading. In addition, we are also working on some non-fiction pieces including articles that I am now giving the students. They are given an artice to read and then are asked to complete questions. Students are usually given a week to complete these articles. In periods 2,3,5, and 8 students have been given vocabulary books. Students are given some time in class to complete the exercises, but may also have homework in these books. Building vocabulary is an important skill in improving reading skills. The students do have a book report due on January 31st. We went to the media center and students selected a country book. The assignment for this month is to complete a travel brochure. Report cards go home on January 27th. I gave students interims today so they could see their grade and inform me of any errors. As always, please e-mail me (lgeorge1@wcpss.net) with questions or call the school and leave me a message (554-8440). I will try to get back to you the same day or the next day at the latest. One last request, I really needs tissues!! Students use a lot of tissues between colds and allergies. Thanks for the donation! |
