Students and Parents:

Welcome to the 2009-2010 school year! Following is a list of guidelines and expectations for our MATH class.

GOALS:
1. To gain more confidence in your math skills.
2. To apply math to the world around you.
3. To have a positive outlook on future math courses.
4. To increase problem solving abilities.

CLASS RULES:
1. Be in assigned seat and begin daily routine before the bell rings or you will be counted tardy.
2. Bring books, notebooks, spirals and ALL supplies every day. This includes homework. :)
3. Respect other people and their property.
4. Be prepared to participate according to the class activity.
5. Follow directions the first time given.

REWARDS:

1. Verbal Praise
2. Positive notes/phone calls home
3. Special privileges


CONSEQUENCES:
1. Student notification (serve as a warning) and may include but is not limited to the following: eye contact, physical proximity, names on board, citizenship lowered, verbal warning, student conference, etc.
2. Teacher/TEAM D-Hall, written assignment, student isolation, and citizenship grade lowered.
3. Parent notification
4. Referral to appropriate assistant principal.

HALL/LOCKERS

1. No bookbags or backpacks (including backpack purses) are allowed in the halls/classrooms except before 1
st/5th period and after school.
2. No public display of affection.
3. Keep hands and feet to oneself.
4.No loud noises, talking, or screaming.
5.  No offensive language including but not limited to (profanity, racial/ethnic slurs, sexual references, put downs).
6. Follow directives of school personnel.  Refusal to do so will result in immediate assignment to ISS.

OTHER DISCIPLINARY MEASURES MAY BE TAKEN IF BEHAVIOR BECOMES REPETITIVE
 

SCHOOL IDs


1. Students without an ID will be last to be dismissed at the end of class.
2. Students must have an ID to leave the classroom with a pass.

CAFETERIA RULES
1.  Be on time and in the cafeteria when the bell rings.

Consequences: Lunch Detention.

2. No cutting in the serving line.  Consequence: See #1

3. After getting a lunch, go to your seat and eat your lunch. Remain seated until you are given permission to leave, throw away trash, and go outside.
4.  Students should exercise good manners at all times.
5. Students must have IDs to enter the lunch lines; those without go to the end of the line.

 

PERNAL PROPERTY
Electronic equipment is not allowed at school; these items are defined in the Student Code of Conduct. If seen or brought to class, it will be picked up and turned in to the office.


CLASS PROCEDURES:
1. Walk calmly into the classroom without any horseplay or talking.
2. Pick up bellwork and/or worksheets, etc. before you are seated.
3. Sharpen pencils before class begins.
4. Write daily assignments in your agenda/planner.
5. Begin warm-up activity/bellwork until further instructions.

TAKING ROLL:
1. Roll will be taken immediately when the bell sounds.
2. You are only to answer here or present when your name is called.
3. There is to be absolutely no talking during this time. Everyone should be actively reading/writing down the assignment for the day in your agenda. This is your responsibility.

GENERAL/SPECIFIC CLASSROOM RULES
General Rules:
1. Be prompt.
2. Be prepared.
3. Be neat (messy work will not be accepted).
4. Be considerate.
5. Follow instructions the first time given.
Specific Rules
6. Respect others
a. keep hands, feet and other objects to yourself;
b. respect school and personal property;
c. work quietly;
d. do not disturb others;
e. use self-control (count to 10 if you get angry);
7. Raise your hand for permission to speak or get out of your seat.
8. Listen.
9. Use time wisely.
10. Do not work on another class's work in reading unless done with math assignment (papers will be
picked up and discarded).
11. Do your best! :)

RESTROOM PASSES:
1. There will be no restroom passes given during class. (
If you have a medical condition which requires you to have to use the restroom often, please bring documentation from your physician.)
*Note: Please take care of all personal business during your passing period.

KEEPING A FOLDER/NOTEBOOK:
Every student will be required to keep a folder of all MATH papers. Each folder will have a Table of Contents with the title of each paper and the grade, if applicable. A folder grade may be given periodically during the 6 weeks. Students should keep up with their folders at all times and bring them to class daily. This is your responsibility. Keep ALL papers for the entire Semester. They will be needed for the Semester Review.

BONUS/EXTRA CREDIT:
Opportunities throughout the year will be made available for extra credit. I do not give extra credit during the year to make-up late or missing work.

TUTORING: TBA

QUIZZES/TESTS:
Students will have quizzes periodically throughout the six weeks. Students will be given 3 to 5 days notice for major exams. If absent on the day of a test or quiz, students will be responsible for checking the make-up work basket and asking me for the missed test or quiz upon their return to class.
There is to be absolutely no talking during quizzes or tests. If you are seen talking or cheating, your quiz/test will be taken up and receive a "0" as the grade and an office referral. (see specific consequences on last page.).
Students will not be able to make-up some pop quizzes. I will insert either ABS or NG as the grade. This will not help nor hurt the average.

MAKE-UP WORK:
THIS IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY!
1. You will have 1 day for each day missed.
2. Check the make-up planner and basket to get your make-up assignments and worksheets.
3. Copy all notes from a fellow student and turn in your make-up work into the class tray within the allotted time.

LATE WORK:
1st Semester: Homework or classwork assignments that aren't turned in on time will lose 30 points for the first day that the assignment is due, 50 points the second day and a 0 the third day.
2nd  Semester: Homework or class assignments that aren't turned in on time will lose 50 points for the first day that the assignment is due and will receive a "0" on the second day. All assignments are to be completed in order to stay caught up in materials presented. No excuses will be accepted unless I have a WRITTEN notice from a parent or guardian informing me of some unforeseen circumstances. Students may also receive D-hall or stay before or after school until the late work is completed.

FAILING PAPERS:
Most failing papers (all CLASSWORK, HOMEWORK, and some QUIZZES AND TESTS) will be sent home for the student to correct, have a parent/guardian sign, and return the following day to receive a new grade up to a 70. Any failing papers not turned in to me CORRECTED (with ALL work shown and in correct format) AND SIGNED BY A PARENT the following day will be recorded in the gradebook as is. Note: In order to correct a paper for a higher grade, at least 50% of the assignment must be completed. Students may have to RETAKE tests and quizzes for grades to be raised up to a 70.

CHEATING:
Academic cheating will NOT be tolerated and will result in a ZERO on the assignment. This includes but is not limited to the following:
1. Writing answers from another student's paper.
2. Letting someone else copy your paper.
3. Changing answers while we grade.
4. Using any cheat notes on a test.
5. Intentionally grading papers wrong to make a better grade.

30%-Homework/Classwork/Bellwork/Participation
30%-Quizzes
40%-Tests

SUPPLIES:
1. highlighters
2. Paper (wide rule)
3. Checking Pens or Pencils (any color but black/blue, gray and light pastels)
4. 2 folders w/pockets and brads (plastic)
5. 2 boxes/packages of pencils
6. one 3 or 5 subject spiral

HOMEWORK/CLASSWORK:

1. ALL assignments not completed in class are considered homework.
2. Use pencil only! (Work completed in pen/map colors will NOT be accepted and will be considered late.)
3. Write neatly and legibly. (Messy papers will not be accepted.)
4. MUST have heading, assignment information, show work and answer key on ALL assignments.
 See Below.

No Name: paper discarded.
No heading: -10 points
Heading Format/Spelling Errors: -5 points.
No Answer Key: Late and Complete
5. Papers that are turned in without ALL work shown will NOT be accepted and considered LATE. All answers should be legible and complete. (ie. labels, feet, inches, etc.) This will include tests and quizzes.

END OF CLASS PROCEDURES:
1. Start packing up approx. 2 minutes before the bell rings.
2. When exiting the class: You wait until a teacher dismisses you; then you will exit the classroom in an orderly fashion..
