Welcome to the 3rd grade!

WEEK: Feb. 1-5

READING & WRITING

*Reading logs are now 30 minutes! Make sure your child is reading a grade appropriate book for at least 30 minutes a night and that you are signing them every Thursday!

*We haved moved into our next genre of writing "Research Reports".  Your child has picked a planet to research and compose a five paragraph essay in class which includes an introduction, body, and conclusion.  We are using the Step Up to Writing Process and are writing it entirely in class piece by piece.  They will also be responisble for topic sentences, transitions, a thesis statement, and concluding sentences.  I will be helping them distinguish between fact and opinion when writing a non-fiction paper.  There is no due date yet, but please be looking for their packet in their homework folder.  We are currently on our 2nd drafts.  We still have a third draft and a final draft before we start to type!

*You can encourage your child to try and learn as much as they can about their planet!  There are some great educational websites out there!

*Our B St. Theatre plays have been mailed!  Keep your fingers crossed for winner from our class!

MATH

*This week we are finishing up Chapter 6 on probability and graphs.  There will be a test Feb. 3rd.

Multiplication and division tests every Friday.  Your child will need to finish 140 multiplication facts in 15min.  We have made a set of multiplication flash cards your child will be able to leave in their backpack to study at school and at home. Only 12 children have passed!

They should be studying their multiplication facts nightly!
