Inquiry Science February 17, 2009 (What affect does pendulums have on your daily life?) Dear Parents: In science, we aspire to develop scientifically informed, caring, and responsible individuals who can think critically and make informed choices about themselves, the environment, and society. Some of the most important scientific concepts students learn are the result of their ability to see relationships between objects and events. Relationships always involve interactions, dependencies, and cause-and-effect events. We are beginning the Variables Model. It consists of activities that help students discover relationships through controlled experimentation. Students will fling, float, fly, and flip objects as they discover relationships in each activity. Our math connection will be metric measurement (meter) and graphs. ------------------------------------------------------- Monday, Feb. 16,2009 No School Plane Sense--Investigate characteristics of model airplane flight and gain experience with the concept of variables. Students will gather data to make predictions. Homework: Designing Podcast script (Friday) Get T.M. signed ------------------------------------------------------- Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2009 Testing variables and identify different variables in a Foss Plane investigation. Collect, organize, and graph data. Describe the flight challenges and complete flight log records.. Homework: Math Extension of the Week (Paper Towel question) ------------------------------------------------------- Wednesday and Thursday, Jan. , 2009 (Double Blocking Wed. 2, 3, 5, and 7; Thurs. 1,4,5, and 6) We will single block this week: Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2009 Conduct controlled experiments using the Foss Plane. Test Foss Plane with Passengers. Homework: Math Extension Pod Cast Response Sheet: Plane Sense Thursday, Feb. 19, 2009 Complete Foss Plane Flight Investigation. Homework: End of Module Twirly Bird Assessment Due double block day next week. ------------------------------------------------------- Friday, Feb. 20, 2009 Response Sheet, Plane Sense Response Sheet and graph.
