 Grades are weighted and divided into three subjects

 Process: This includes daily assignments, worksheets, and activities.

 Quizzes: Information that is being taught is tested to determine the retention rate and help students see where they should study. **Some science labs will fall in this category.

 Tests: A final collection of student knowledge on a particular subject.

 The process is worth 0% of the grade. Quizzes are worth 40% of the grade. Tests are worth 60% of the grade.

 Advisory is not graded. The abbreviation N/C stand for No Credit.

 A student may retake a quiz if the following conditions are met:

 All assignments must be turned and completed CORRECTLY. (This provides the needed review.)

 A request for a quiz is given WITHIN one week getting the quiz back.

 A quiz may only be retaken once.

 A quiz retake must be completed BEFORE the unit test or final project in a unit.

 A quiz will be scheduled for before school or after school. (Please get teacher permission before planning to stay after school. Occasionally, a quiz can be given during lunch period.)

 Tests are the final measure of a student’s knowledge in a particular field of study.

 Students are EXPECTED to study and review for tests.

 Tests are scheduled at least a week in advance so preparation time is available.

 Certain tests have teacher-provided study guides. Other tests cover material provided in class notes.

 Test CANNOT be retaken as they measure the FINAL amount of knowledge a student has gleaned in a unit of study. They are they last grade of any unit.

 Find the teacher name and click the apple next to the name.

 This link takes you directly to the site. You may sign up for instant notification if you desire.

 Your child is required to fill in their agenda each week.

 If your child is absent the following steps should be taken:

 Call the office to report the absence (request work)

 Check your agenda to see what your child can be doing at home

 Go to the school to pick up books. (The school building is open until 8:00 P.M. with janitorial staff present.)

 Once your child returns to school, have them make an appointment DURING THEIR BREAK to discuss what they missed.

 A pre-arranged absence requires AT LEAST THREE DAYS ADVANCED NOTICE. If you are leaving and do not give three days advanced notice, your child will be expected to get the absent work upon their return. (See office for the form.)

 A student is given two days for every day ABSENT to make up their work. After that time period has expired, the work becomes "late".

 Late work can be made up during a unit of study. Once the unit is done, late work for that unit will no longer be accepted.

 Since classroom activities and worksheets are not graded, late work will only affect the quiz and test portion of the grade.

 If you child can study effectively for the quiz or test without completing worksheets, they should put their focus there instead of on missed class assignments.

 Classroom assignments are a part of the learning process. If your child habitually refuses to do their work in class, a poor quiz or test score should not come as a surprise.

 Projects, reports and other types of culminating activities will be accepted for one day past the deadline. After that time, they will not be accepted.

 Your student needs to have a book in class

 Your student needs their ID/Activity Card to check out books

 Missed Spelling Tests should be made up at home

 All Reports of any kind, may be typed. Computer, printer and other malfunctions are NOT an acceptable excuse for late reports. Please handwrite the project instead.

 Knowing multiplication/division facts is CRITICAL.

 The standards based report card is not up and running for middle school.

 Both math and science are considered "core" classes for exiting standards.

 Class focus will be on multiplying/dividing fractions and decimals, introducing algebraic expressions, and ratios. (Based upon NCTM recommendations)

 EOC’s (Final Exams) are given at the end of each semester and are worth 10% of your child’s grade.

 Study guides can be found online. (See district website under curriculum.)

 There will be art and other types of projects.

 Dress up days for units of study. (i.e. Caveman, Egypt etc.)

 Our first project is due on September 23. Our first dress up day is September 24. Your child must sign up to have a slot. (See me with questions.)
