There is no homework over Thanksgiving Break - please have a safe and restful vacation, and I will see everyone on Monday, 29 November!

19 November 2009 - We reviewed the different types of number notation today (including standard notation, exponential notation, number-and-word notation, and scientific notation), which just so happens to be the topics and skills that will be covered on tomorrow's quiz! Homework tonight is to study and prepare for tomorrow's quiz.

17 November 2009 - We covered scientific notation today. Homework tonight is to complete workbook page 69. Have a great night!

16 November 2009 - Quizzes were passed back (great job, overall!!!) and we reviewed some exponential notation. Homework tonight (which was started in class) is to finish the CT, and to do workbook pages 66 & 68. On pages 68 (question #2), please change the column marked "calculator key sequence" to "repeated factors", like the one in question #1. Have a great night!

13 November 2009 - After correcting homework, we took our regular Friday quiz. It will be graded and returned on Monday. There is no homework over the weekend. See you on Monday!

12 November 2009 - After correcting homework, we reviewed exponential notation and word-and-number notation. Homework tonight will be to finish the worksheet the students started in class today (pages 257 & 258). It covers word-and-number notation, which is also the topic of tomorrow's quiz! Have a great night -

10 November 2009 - Today we discussed very small numbers, and how to properly identify them. We also took a look at a pretty neat video showing how large and small numbers are used to show the distance away from earth, as well as zooming all the way into a man's hand. Pretty cool stuff. Homework tonight is Workbook pages 62-63. See everyone on Thursday!

9 November 2009 - Homework tonight is to finish the Powers of Ten Quiz CT. It is due tomorrow. Have a great night!

6 November 2009 - We reviewed Powers of Ten, and then took our weekly quiz. It will be graded and returned on Monday. There is no homework over the weekend. See everyone on Monday!

4 November 2009 - We worked today with "Number and Word" Notation, and discussed the population of the US and the world. Homework tonight is Workbook p57. Have a great night.

3 November 2009 - After correcting homework, we continued to work with multiplying using Powers of Ten which are less than 1. Homework tonight is Workbook pages 55-56 (number 3 on page 56 is optional). Have a great night!

2 November 2009 - Last Thursday's quizzes were passed back, and a CT was assigned. The CT is due tomorrow. We also discussed Powers of Ten, and how the skills associated with solving problems using Powers of Ten are to deal with moving the decimal point, and NOT just with how many zeros there are. In addition to the CT, students also need to complete Workbook p 54. Have a great night!

29 October 2009 - We took our weekly quiz today, reviewing adding, subtracting, and multiplying with decimal numbers. It will be graded over the LONG weekend and returned on Monday. Have a safe and happy holiday! There is no homework over the weekend.

28 October 2009 - We continued to review adding, subtracting, and multiplying with decimal numbers (which will also be the topic of tomorrow's quiz). Homework tonight to write three problems for another student to solve - 2 using multiplication of decimals and 1 using addition or subtraction of decimals. Please solve your problems on the back of the page (for the other student to use as an answer key). We will be trading papers before tomorrow's quiz.

27 October 2009 - Homework tonight is workbook p 50-51. You may solve these problems through whatever means you like best...lattice method or traditional multiplication. Have a great night!

26 October 2009 - Last Friday's quizzes were passed back and discussed. Homework tonight to complete the CT for this quiz (on Adding, Subtracting and Estimating Products of Decimals) - the CT is due tomorrow. I will be offering a re-take on last Friday's quiz Wednesday after school for anyone who is interested...while no one's score will go down by taking the re-take quiz, I will average the two quiz scores together, and the averaged score will be entered into PowerSchool. Wednesday after school is the only time this re-take will be offered. Have a great night!

22 October 2009 - We corrected Tuesday's homework, and collected Chapter 1 test CT's. If you did not turn in your CT today, please do so on Monday, as I will be out of class tomorrow at a conference. Turning in your CT on Monday will count as only being one day late. Tonight's homework is workbook p48. Have a great night!

21 October 2009 - Since all the students were at OSD today, there is no new homework. However, please make sure the Chapter 1 Test CT and workbook pages 44-45 are completed for class tomorrow. Hope everyone had a good day!

20 October 2009 - Chapter 1 tests were passed back and reviewed today. CT information for the test was read off - it will be the exact same as a quiz CT, only with larger numbers (since the test was out of 42 points, and quizzes are only worth 10 points). Students also need to complete workbook pages 44-45 on adding and subtracting decimal numbers. As all the students will be attending Ocean Safety Day tomorrow, both of these assignments (the Chapter 1 test CT and the workbook pages) will be due on Thursday. Have a great night, and enjoy the beach tomorrow!

19 October 2009- Students finished up their Chapter 1 tests today. I will be grading them tonight, and will pass them back tomorrow. There is no homework tonight.

15 October 2009 - I apologize for not posting yesterday, but the power outage at the end of the day also knocked out our internet access. A great reason to use SchoolNotes as a backup only, and make sure your Binder Reminder is filled out each day! We reviewed today for the Chapter 1 test, which we will be taking tomorrow in class. If the TurningPoint review we did in class is any indication of tomorrow's test performance, students should do pretty well! Please continue to study tonight.

13 October 2009 - After correcting last night's homework, we reviewed a bit of graphing using positive and negative numbers. Since we will be having our Chapter 1 test this Friday, students had a couple of minutes to begin working on tonight's homework, which was a review study guide for the material that will be covered on the test. Please finish it up tonight, and we will check it in class tomorrow. Have a great night!

Then on the back, you solve out the problems (this is like an answer key.). We will exchange them in class tomorrow. Have a great night!

21 September 2009 - Last Friday's quizzes were passed back, and the correct CT format was discussed with the class. Homework for tonight (and due either Tuesday or Wednesday) is the completed CT for this quiz. PARENTS/GUARDIANS: a critical element to each and every CT is a parent/guardian signature! Please go over the quiz and CT with your student before signing it...CT's with no parent/guardian signature will NOT be accepted! Have a great night!

Students practiced some multiplication facts today, turned in Parent Contact Sheets & Syllabi, and started the data gathering process for an activity we will begin tomorrow and continue next week. There is no math homework tonight, but please continue to gather your Daily Supplies as outlined in the syllabus. Have a great night!

9 September 2009 - What a GREAT first day of school! Thank you to all the students who made the start to this new school year so wonderful!Homework for tonight is to have your parents fill out the "Parent Contact Sheet" and return it to me by this Friday, 11 September.Important sections to this sheet are the parent(s) signature(s) and thee-mail address(es) where parents can be reached. Also, please review the Math 6 Syllabus, which was also passed out today, and sign and return the bottom section of the last page by Friday, 11 September...we did not have a great deal of time to review the Syllabus in class today, so please bring questions back to class if you have them! Just a reminder as you begin/continue/finish your back-to-school shopping...the same binder that students will be using in their science class may be used for my Math class - students do not need to have separate supplied for Math and science. Have great night!
