MATERIALS

    designated composition book for note taking     
    ‘GUIDED READING and STUDY WORKBOOK’
    covered text book
    pen
      
EXPECTATIONS: 
•    Student should come to class with necessary supplies every day.
•    Science work to be submitted should be done in ink on looseleaf paper, properly headed.
•    Note taking in class is required.  Notebooks will be considered a part of each students class participation grade.
•    Assignments may be turned in early but will be penalized if turned in past the due date.

SCIENCE REPORT CARD GRADE:
•    Quarterly grades are calculated by dividing the total of points earned by the total of points possible for that period. ALL POINTS ARE EQUAL!
•    Students will have various WRITTEN assignments due each marking period.  These may include end of chapter reviews, guided reading and study workbook, article summaries, lab reports, current events or creative writing. These usually have a 25 possible point value each.
•    Student learning will be assessed using tests, quizzes, and worksheets.  Test dates will always be announced in advance to allow students preparation time. Tests always have a 100 possible point value.  A quiz or worksheet may or may not be announced but will include information from assigned reading or previous days notes.  Students should review their notes daily to increase their comprehension of the material while insuring their success should there be an unannounced quiz. Quiz possible point values may vary from 5 to 50
•    All classes will have a FINAL EXAM.  Test questions are taken directly from chapter tests taken throughout the year of study.

ABSENCE -
If you are absent, you will need to read the textbook section that was covered in class.  Information about what you missed can be found at www.schoolnotes.com Tests or quizzes that were scheduled for the day you were absent will be taken on the day of your return.  BEING ABSENT THE DAY BEFORE A QUIZ OR TEST WILL NOT EXCUSE YOU FROM THE QUIZ OR TEST.

CORRECTIONS ***
Students can earn back points by doing corrections on their test and quiz errors.  Guidelines on separate page.  PARENT SIGNATURES are required to earn any extra points.  Any graded paper, regardless of the earned score, can be signed by a parent for an extra earned point.

www.glencoe.com.  offers a science section that has topics that match the material we cover.  There are tests that will assist preparation for our test/quizzes.
