 Mrs. Harrill's Math Site

This month we will focus on the following skills:

  • Problem Solving
  • Place Value through 1,000,000
  • Addition and Subtraction (3-4 Digit with and without regrouping)
  • Multiplication Facts 1-10
  • Understanding the Meaning of Multiplication and Division

Parents,

Please work with your child daily on learning multiplication facts.  It is essential that they know these fluently.

Week By Week Essentials

Each week students will be given a sheet called Week by Week Essentials.  This is given to us by the NC Department of Public Instruction, which is the same people who create our End of Grade Test.  Some of these problems require higher level thinking skills.  I will give these sheets to the students on Monday.  They are due on Friday.  The whole sheet is not required each week.  The Keeping Skills Sharp section is always required.  We will mark all sections with a star, which means that it is required, or “EC” which means extra credit.  Encourage your child to complete the required sections first and then to complete as many of the EC sections that they can.

Math 4 Today

This is something that we will complete in class.  We will complete each day’s section for morning work, and then check it in math class.  On Fridays we will have a short quiz  that will come from the problems that we practiced that week.  On Thursday, please look over this with your child and make sure they understand all problems for that week.

Homework

Please check your child’s agenda daily for homework.  Most days we will begin homework in class and sometimes students will even complete these.  I will not collect homework until the following day, so your child should be able to show you any homework that is supposed to be completed.  Your child should not have more that an hour of homework a night.  If your child is having more than that please let me know.  It may mean that they are not working in class like they should or may need extra help.  All homework will be a review of what we covered in class.   Students should be able to complete homework with little or no help from you.  By fourth grade, students should become more independent and responsible.  Please let me know if your child is struggling to complete homework
