Grading Policies

English IV (Seniors)
The major emphasis of this course will be on World Literature. Comprehensive reading,
techniques of interpretation, inference reasoning, and methods of extrapolation will be taught and evaluated. Assessment formats will be both objective and essay tests as well as assignments and reports.

The emphasis on Writing will be in a formal sense as well as a creative one. Organization, structure, spelling, grammar, and punctuation will be reinforced and evaluated. Assignments may include essay questions, compositions, projects, reports, and research papers.

Vocabulary is emphasized and evaluated primarily through the use of objective quizzes and tests as well as in written essays and assignments.

Class participation will involve oral and written work. The class is, primarily, a lecture and discussion style and attentive student response is crucial for success.

Summer Reading will be tested early in the first quarter.

Types of Assessments will include, but are not limited to:
Tests, Quizzes, Assignments, Homework, Essays, Research Papers, and Oral Interpretation(Speeches, Readings, etc.)

The Homework Policy, simply stated, is that there is always homework to be done, especially reading. ( An assigned reading may be due on a specific date, but it should also be read again before the test on that unit. Writings may be due on a specific date, but proofreading and rewriting are integral parts of the process.) All written homework must be typed. all typed work is Times New Roman, 12 point, not bold. All typed work is double-spaced.

The Make-up Policy is that a student has two (2) days upon his return from an absence to make arrangements to complete the missing work and/or tests. Missed work and/or tests that are not made up within the proper time frame result in no credit!

Since the amount of work given is substantial and more than sufficient to achieve good grades, no extra credit is given.

A syllabus of each day's work is posted on schoolnotes.

It is my philosophy that the grade achievement be kept as objective as possible with only slight subjective involvement.
