Saint of the Week - Mary, Our Mother.  Mary was born free from original sin, the only child of Anne and Joachim.  As a young girl, she entered the Temple and took a vow of virginity.  A few years later, while living in Nazareth, Mary was visited by the Archangel Gabriel.  The Archangel told her she would become the Mother of Jesus by the Holy Spirit.  Guided by her faith, Mary married the carpenter Joseph.  Mary gave birth to Jesus in a stable in Bethlehem.  Mary was often with Jesus during his public ministry.  More than fifty days in the Catholic calendar of feasts are devoted to Mary including her birth (September 8), her Assumption into Heaven (August 15), her Immaculate Conception (December 8) and the Annunciation by the Angel Gabriel that she would bear the Son of God (March 25).   As Mary stayed with Jesus until He left the earth, she remains at our side, too, from birth until death, while we struggle with the hardships and challenges of life.

This week the children and I will talk about our Heavenly Mother and compare her to our earthly mother by using a Venn Diagram.  Each student will be given the opportunity to say one kind thing about their mother.

*Please continue to encourage the children  (Pre-K through 3rd Grade) about the 100 Book Challenge!  Thank you for your support.
