Week of November 16, 2009

Reading:  This week we will begin a new story titled "Splash."  It is a story about a girl and her pets and how they help her.

Phonics:  We will be working on the sound of short "e."  All homework will reflect this skill.

Spelling: This week's words are: shed, hen, wet, red, then, pet, away, good, into, put.  Bonus:  weather

Grammar:  The children are working on puctuation and each day we reinforce writing a sentence with the correct puctuation in our morning messages.  This week we will concentrate on irregular plural nouns.

Writing:  The children are writing in their journals.  Each day we review the rules to writing a sentence.  The children will be learning to write a beginning, middle, and end to a story. The children will be writing a story using a picture prompt and I will introduce the "4 square" graphic organizer that will help the children write a story. 

Math:  We will be finishing up on data and graphs this week.  The children will be using graphs to solve problems.  Chapter test on Thursday, Chapter 5 begins on Friday.  Addition.

Science:  We will be working on weather this week to coincide with our story "Splash." 

Social Studies:  The children are learning songs and poems about the Native Americans and Pilgrims.
