Welcome to Kindergarten!

Feb.8, 2010

Letter Ff is our letter of the week, so please send in something that begins with F for our display  table!  Our 100th Day of school celebration is going to be on Fri., Feb. 12.  Please send a collection of 100 items on Friday.  Students may also bring Valentine cards to exchange that day.

We missed our field trip to Horizons due to the weather.  Horizons will host us on a make up day if possible later in the school year.  I will update when they let us know.

December 21

We are all excited about our Christmas Breakfast tomorrow morning at 9:45.  I look forward to seeing many of you then.

Mrs. Weast and I want to wish you a safe and happy holiday.  Merry Christmas and happy New Year to you and your families!

Thanks to everyone who has volunteered to bring in something for our Christmas Breakfast on Tuesday, Dec. 22.  Remember that our breakfast begins at 9:45.

On Monday, Dec. 21 we will watch the movie "The Polar Express."  Please have your child wear pajamas to school on Monday.  This will be a fun way to let them experience the movie!

This week our letter of the week is Cc.  Please remember to bring in something for our display table that starts with C.  The students are really enjoying our poems and songs this time of year.  Ask them to recite "Gingerbread Man Happy" or to sing "I'm a Little Pine Tree."  You are in for a treat.

Our field trip to Patterson's Farm was so much fun!  Everyone did a great job being scientists and observing on the farm.  The students used their senses (seeing, hearing, touching, and smelling) to make all sorts of observations.

Many of our students have completed 5 Bubblegum Readers this quarter, but several have not.  Please read to/with your child and send in those Bubblegum Readers.  You can write down five books on any sheet of paper if you can't find the sheet I sent home.

I forgot to mention earlier this week that we are learning high frequency words.  This week's word is "see."  We have also learned the word "I."  Students are expected to read and write the high frequency words.  We also call these popcorn words because they "pop" up all the time in our reading and writing!

*Please send in the conference sign up sheet if you haven't*  Thank you for your help!

We are gearing up for a great week.  Our field trip to Patterson's Farm is tomorrow and we will be doing many activities throughout this week related to the field trip.

Our letter of the week is Mm!  Please have your child bring in something that starts with M for our display table (remember, it can be a drawing).

Poem of the week:  5 Little Pumpkins

Song of the week:  Three Cool Mice

Read Aloud Books of the Week:  If you Give a Mouse a Cookie; If you Give a Moose a Muffin

Last week we had a wonderful time learning about Ss.  The students enjoyed reading Stone Soup and loved making stone soup.  From the results of our graph, we could see that most of the students liked eating stone soup as well!

I plan to use this page in a journal/blog style where I keep you updated about all of the interesting and exciting things that happen in our class.  I will make the new entries at the top and you can scroll down for older entries.  I will put any updates at the top of this page.
