Dear First Grade Students and Parents,

     Welcome to our class web page.  Please visit frequently, as I will be adding new information including weekly homework, spelling words, and upcoming events.  Here are some special things going on in our class.

Reading and Spelling:  This week, the students will working on high frequency word spelling, as well as reviewing grammar, phonics, and reading skills from our last reading anthology.  The students will be taking a test on their final reading book, and will be working with high frequency words from their stories in spelling.  In reading, the students will have some fun with a familiar story Franklin Wants a Pet and we will work on different comprehension activities with this adorable story.  This will be their last week of spelling tests!  Here are the spelling words for the week:

*Please continue to review spelling words each night and encourage students to color in a flower on their spelling contract for each night!  In addition, we will be using www.spellingcity.com to generate games and activities for the class to review weekly spelling words.  Please visit this site for reinforcement of spelling and high frequency word practice.

Math:  This week, the students will complete their final math chapter on subtraction, and we will be working on measurement to end the year.  We have completed all of the first grade skills, and measurement is something fun to end the year with!

Science:  In science this week, the students will be learning turtles to go along with our reading story Franklin Wants a Pet.

Social Studies:  In social studies, the students will be learning about summer safety, including using sunscreen, wearing a helmet when bicycle riding, and water safety tips.
