January Media News Happy new year everyone! The students are back and ready to read! We still need VOLUNTEERS in the media center to help check out books, shelve them, and other odd jobs that I am challenged to get done so that I can spend more time planning lessons for the kids! Please stop by to set up a regular volunteer time, or just stop in instead of waiting in your car at pick up time! Book to Movie Recommendations It's true that the book usually IS better than the movie! Encourage your kids to read the book BEFORE they are allowed to see the movie. Coming out or out in the theaters now is: HUGO based on The Invention of Hugo Cabret by Brian Selznick The War Horse based on the book The War Horse by Michael Morpurgo.
The Adventures of Tin Tin, based on the book The Adventures of Tin Tin by Hergé. The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes based on the book The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn based on the Twilight Series by Stephenie Meyer (Young Adult)

Students compete in a schoolwide event in the Spring, and the final competition takes place in May! This is a wonderful way to assure that your student reads all year. Alternate Tuesdays from 3:00 - 3:30 are the times that Battle of the Books teams from 4th and 5th Grades meet in the media center.
