Library Volunteers Needed for Fall

When you sign up to be a volunteer at our first school meeting in August, please consider volunteering in the media center. Now that we have no aide, we could really use the help!

Book to Movie Recommendations

It's true that the book usually IS better than the movie! Encourage your kids to read the book BEFORE they are allowed to see the movie.  Coming out or out in the theaters now is:

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

 The Lorax by Dr. Suess

We celebrated Read Across America Day and Dr. Suess's birthday. Staff dressed as book characters. In anticipation of our visiting author after Spring Break, Vicky Alvear Shecter, I came as an historical fiction character: Cleopatra. :)

Find out more about Battle of the Books!

Students form teams of 3 to 4 and divide a list of books that have been selected by local area media specialists from the Archdiocese. Students compete in a schoolwide event in the Spring, and the final competition takes place in May! This is a wonderful way to assure that your student reads all year.

                                  DATABASE ACCESS

If your student wants to do research from home, they will need to bring home the database passwords that allow them to go on to the database.  Every student has been given the passwords to take home.

Here is our newest database!

Michael  has compiled lots and lots of books that are successful with boys!  Take a look at some of the many books that will appeal to the young male reader in YOUR family!

Using the Dewey Decimal System

When you take your student to the public library, encourage he or she to locate their own book by using the Dewey numbers, or the first three letters of the author's name in the fiction section.
