Greetings Dolphin students and parents.  The 2009-2010 school year continues to  scream success. I am excited to provide educational opportunities to your child/children at Southeast Middle School.  In the Language Arts curriculum students are focusing on the following:

1. Writing- Biopoems (come check them out).

2. Persuasive essays

3. Autobiographical Incidents.

4. Grammar-sentence structure/run-ons and fragments. Phrases/Clauses

5. Wordskills- Lesson 23 "Trading Places," Lesson 24" Recognizing Faces."

6. Reading/Analyzing various poetry and text.

7. The class is reading the novel"Sweetgrass" by Jan Hudson.  This book goes right along with our unit in Social Studies on Native Americans.

In my Social Studies classes students have just completed chapter two, theme one which focused on Native Americans. Then, the focus will cover chapter two, theme two, introducing European Explorers to Native Americans. Students and parents there will be a quiz on each chapter or section, which should occur every other Friday. Also there will be hands on activity projects with each chapter or section covered. Students can always view the North Carolina History book online by going to the following website:

 1. ncjourneys.com

 2. Login: student 1

 3. password: cadillacs

Parents please make certain that you check and sign all planner/agenda information daily.   Parents I also encourage you to make sure that your child/children read at least 30 minutes per night, this will enhance their reading skills. Please contact me at   704-638-5561 ext 147 with any questions or concerns. I look forward to speaking with you.

                                                                             Sincerely,

                                                                           Ms. B. L. Isaac
