Week of: 2-6-12 Number: 8 Snacks for this Week: Joshua, Kaitlyn, Giles, Nathaniel, Cameron Class News: Our theme for this week Louisiana (culture, music, stories). We sent a letter home concerning our 100th Day Activities. Our 100th Day activities will be on Friday, February 10th. We would like for each student to make/decorate a 100th Day T-shirt(any way that you like) and we will wear them to school on that day. Please see the letter for details. Thanks for your help with this project. J. Wallace James: ![]() The J. Wallace James annual Art Walk was a great success. Our students visited three different activities. First we visited a visual artist who showed the children how to draw with crayons on a heated surface (encaustic art), second, we visited a fiddle player and our third visit was to the LHS strings group. The children were well-behaved and, hopefully, enjoyed themselves. Useful Links: Other fun interactive websites you might want to visit: www.pbs.org www.sesameworkshop.org www.seussville.com A good website for learning about letter recognition, letter sounds, and other fun games and activities is www.starfall.com. Teacher Challenge: Parents, ask your child about Louisiana: what is Louisiana, what letter does the word Louisiana begin with, what is our state flower, tree, what is on the state flag, who are the acadians, how did the Acadians cook their food, what is Mardi Gras, what are the Mardi Gras colors, what is moss, what food /crop grows or is made in Louisiana ( Steen's syrup, cotton, Community coffee, Tony Chachere seasoning mix) and ask them to tell you anything they know about Louisiana(this is a good exercise to practice/encourage memory recall). Reminders: The weather is getting cooler. We go outside when the weather is cold so please make sure to send your child to school in appropriate outerwear. Also, very important, label your child's clothes. Lots of children have a J. Wallace James sweatshirt and I would hate for your child's sweatshirt to accidentally go home with another child. Also, you may want to send warmer clothes for your child's extra set of clothes that stays at school. Practice with your child putting on and taking off their outerwear. Try to read to your child every day!( and don't forget to read with expression~~) Help child with 100th day t-shirt.
