The first day of 1st grade began with a poem and a song:

"A circle's round / It never ends / That's how long  / I want to be your friend"

The day concluded with a round "Smiley Face" cookie.

The next day, the 1st graders met their 8th grade buddy....A faithful friend.

The concluding days of August were filled with review of colors, numbers, letters, and a health program to protect against H1N1 by Dr. Lisa Junkins.

September opened with the virtue of the month--manners--for National Good Manners Month.  The month was filled with reading (Smart Start), math number concepts and addition concepts, and centers that corresponded with curriculum.

Some centers we experienced to enhance and expand our curriculum included:

Wow Words (ex. Schultute, philanthropist, or homophone)

  National Ice Cream Month

  National Honey Month

  Labor Day--Occupations

Milton Hershey--birthday (cocoa tree and pod, chocolate chip cookies)

  National Pledge of Allegiance Day

Francis Scott Key--Star Spangled Banner Day

  Citizenship Day

  American Symbols

  John Chapman--Johnny Appleseed, apples

The highlight of September was out beautiful celebration of the Blessed Mother's Feast Day (9-8).  Pictures may be viewed at the bulletin board by the 1st grade door; as well as the awesome "God make me extra special" display outside the 1st grade room.

Packets will be going home at the end of the month in preparation for our annual "Saints Parade."  Please mark your calendars for attendance:  FRIDAY, OCTOBER 30 and SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 1.

Blessings Always,

First Grade Teachers
