Welcome To 8th Grade Language Arts With Mrs. Elvers!

We will cover S.A.T. Vocabulary, Literary Terms and Analysis, Grammatical Mechanics, Literature, and Writing this year. Every student will need a three inch binder with the following sections:1.Vocabulary/ Structural Analysis(Prefixes, Roots, Suffixes). 2. Literary Terms 3.Grammar 4.Literature and Poetry 5.Writing.



Students will have a test every Friday on the ten vocabulary words assigned to them on Monday mornings. The test will also include other material covered during the week. I will conduct a thorough review on the Thursday before each test. Every student will be responsible for his or her review. I am more than happy to help in case of an illnes or absence. Please be aware that students will have Language Arts homework every night. There is so much to learn and cover in order to become competent in 8th grade English. I will update my schoolnotes weekly. We will begin the year with Vocabulary, Literary Terms, (The Dramatic Structure of a Short Story), and Nouns (Parts of Speech). Welcome Back from the holiday break! We will continue to read Anne Frank while reading and analyzing other short stories. We have just finished Nominative, Objective, and Possessive Case Pronouns. Students should know what pronouns to use and why in their speaking ang writing. This week we will be reviewing adjectives and introducing adverbs. These parts of speech enhance writing when used correctly. Then, we will be learning conjunctions, clauses and phrases. Expect homework every night! Remember, tests on Fridays! We have SAT vocabulary, structural analysis, and literary terms every week!
