Welcome to Mr. Lail's 3rd Grade Class!

As we enter the third quarter please continue to work with your child on their addition and subtraction facts. Students should be able to recall facts from adding & subtracting 0 to adding & subtracting 12 from memory. This will help in 2 and 3 digit addition/subtraction as well as multiplication and division.

We are continuing to work on asking questions to yourself as you read,  making inferences, evaluating what we read, summarizing.

We are continuing to work on the 12 Powerful Words! Your child must be able to say, spell, read, define and use each word in a sentence. The words are:

Trace - outline
Analyze - break it down
Infer - read between the lines
Evaluate - judge
Formulate - build and create
Describe - tell me all about it
Support - back it up with details
Explain - tell me why
Summarize - give the short version
Compare - tell how things are alike
Contrast - tell how things are different
Predict - think about the future

Please be on the lookout for conference letters. Not all parents are required to have a conference so please look out for a letter from me. If you do not get a letter and would like a conference, please let me know so that we can schedule one.

Please make sure to check your child's agenda daily. Students are required to write down their homework each day and to get their agenda signed. This is a great way to teach them responsibility.

If you ever have any questions, concerns or comments, please feel free to email me: lailmo@rss.k12.nc.us , write me a note, or call the school and leave a message.
